Description
Brouwerij Sterkens has a particularly rich and very tasteful history. In 1651, the Sterkens family began to brew their own beer out of interest. In that time, they were local farmers with small amount of money to brew some quantities. As they were brewing, they wrote down every single detail of the recipes they made and the way they produced the beer. These notes were given from father to son, for generations on. When the family noticed that brewing beer gradually got more priority than working on the farm, they chose to professionalize the brewery and to fill out more quality beers. The delicious and spicy St. Sebastiaan and St. Paul beers were well appreciated in Belgium, what led to the fact that Brouwerij Sterkens was one of the first breweries who went abroad for exportation.
The current 14th generation of Brouwerij Sterkens have ensured that the beers of Sterkens are appreciated in more than 30 countries on all 5 continents. The Sterkens family is looking to the near future with a lot of enthousiasm and confidence, without forgetting the past. After all, Brouwerij Sterkens is still bottling their beers in distinctive and exceptional packaging.
Sterkens did stop with brewing and became a client brewer in 2008.

Donkergeel bier met weinig schuim. Smaak is zoet en fris fruitig, kruidig met iets van appel en kaneel. Apart witbier maar daarom juist best goed.

75cl bottle, labeled as grand cru. Pours unclear warm blonde. Small white head. Smell is sweet ( somewhat spiced sugary sweetness ) Taste is sharp, bit bitter. Definate sweet undertone ( Sugar, mild spices ) yeasty towards the end. Agressive carbonation that really triggers the bitterness. Somewhat malty underneath the other aspects. OK

75 cl bottle. Pours clear, very dark, caramel brown. Small white head. Smell is bit sweet, rather simple. Taste is metallic ( very, very metallic ! ) bit sweet. some caramel tones. Tastewise, this is OK. Simple brown ale. Appart from the metallicness, that is. But again, AGAIN, this has such a big amount of carbonation, it simply repels me. I’d still drink this, after swirling this, it does turn better, but I simply do not understand why so many belgian brewers put so damn much carbo in their beer...

Bottle. Pours clear blonde , good white head. Smell is malty, lager yeast. Rather intense. Taste is to the sharp, bitter side with a well-malted backbone. Not too good on the MF though, even for the style. good carbo, very easy drinkable. Its a good pilsner, but with a style that only has such subtile diffrences, its hard to be the best one. This one would be medium to me, it doesn’t have anything new or interesting or specific, its just a pilsner with no obvious flaws or overpowering additives.
