Description
Epic ales to celebrate legendary Dwarfen deeds! The Fownes Brewing Company was started in 2012 to bring a fresh breed of outstanding ales and porters to the good folk of the Black Country. In the seven years since we rolled the first cask out of the brewery doors we've gone from strength to strength, picking up awards and recognition on a regional and national scale. In the autumn of 2019 we took the bold stride to relocate the brewery deeper into the heart of the Black Country, so that we could forge our next chapter and expand our ability to bring our unique, epic ales to a wider audience than ever before.

Cask at The Oil Basin, Worcester, 16/02/23. Clear golden with a decent just off white head. Nose is juicy citric flesh, grass, melon, citric tinged straw. Taste comprises melon, tangerine, light floral notes, soft malts, orange zest. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, semi drying close splashed with juicy hop bitterness. Solid cask pale ... likely an American judging by the hop profile (that aren't listed anywhere).

Cask at Wellington, Brum. Aroma has damp malts and? Clear gold. Frothy foamy white head. Light-medium bitter. Woody. Grainy. Light citrus. Underlying cardboard malts. Light-medium bodied. Slick. Flat carbonation. Long dry finish. Another snoozefest of a Gold. No way would dwarves drink this kinda stuff.

Cask at Lych Gate, Wolverhampton. Pours almost black with a medium foamy tan head and good lacing. The aroma has chocolate and roast malts. In the mouth the texture fluctuates between sweet / creamy and rough / harsh and tarry. Through it all roast malts are very much the main flavour with plenty of liquorice too. Later some toffee and chocolate comes through as well. Strangely it gets a bit watery later on as well. Finish is dry and pretty bitter. This is really good indeed.
