Kao prva nezavisna pivovara u Hrvatskoj i jedni od začetnika naše craft scene, smatramo da naša odgovornost ne staje na proizvodnji i isporuci piva.
Želimo svim pivoljupcima objasniti magiju nastajanja piva, važnost kvalitete sastojaka i približiti bezbrojne kombinacije okusa i aroma.

Bottle 0.33. The biggest disappointment in this beer is that it comes in 0.33 bottles. :-) Of course this is probably one of best beers in Croatia. Nice dark color with coffee and roasted aroma. Nice bitter finish from lots od hops in it. I am happy to see homebrew project becoming macro brewery.

On tap at Tolkien’s Zagreb. Almost black coloured, small brown head that stays for a while, chocolate in the nose. Roasted malt, chocolate and light coffee with notes of hops and discreet touch of alcohol. Mild roasty and bitterish finish. Well done.

Rating No.5700
On tap at Tolkien’s Zagreb. Darker amber coloured, small to medium sized off-white head, hoppy nose. Sweetish malty, flowery grapefruity hoppy and mild bready with mild fruity notes in bitterish finish. Pleasant long-lasting bitter aftertaste. Nice brew.

On tap at Tolkien’s pub, Opatovina, Zagreb. Clear amber, but almost no head was visible when I got it. Hay and floral aromas, caramel in the taste, but quite bitter, grassy and hoppy, resembles an IPA. Drinkable, light carbonation, medium body. Some could find it too bitter for a pale ale, but good for high IBU lovers.

0.5 on tap in Tolkien’s pub, Opatovina, Zagreb. First batch. Pitch black with tan head, dropped rather quickly. Hops , coffee, some dark fruits aroma. Easy drinking, sweet coffeeish taste in the beginning, then strong lingering hoppy bitterness. Rich taste and full body. Very good.

On tap yesterday at the "pre-release", at Tolkien’s.... So my first glass of Pale Ale was off (not the brewery’s fault, improperly washed glass apparently (can’t blame the bartenders that much, damn busy moment)), and I wasn’t planning on staying long, or spending much, as I had other plans. Initially thought of getting a rate from a friend’s beer, but after a whiff and a sip (thanks PriMarius!), I immediately ordered a full glass for myself. Man. Full aroma, coffee, grainy, slightly oily, though more creamy, fresh, with a light, just tiny touch of orange, out of nowhere. Immediately appealing. Several hours later, penniless by now, I caught myself just sipping on (another) glass of this, after 7 of us pooled everything we’d had to the money that was left over after the group bill was paid to get another round for everyone, and just enjoying the f**k out of it. Intensive and interesting, by the book, but lovely, the creamy taste struck with coffee & chocolate notes, grainy, roasty, some vague "orange" again, balanced to perfection, by the book. If I had to look for a negative, it would be the slightly strange aftertaste, that felt somehow "diluted" (not the most perfect word ever). Like a minor scratch on something that’s eerily close to perfection. The Zmajska guys had to go to the brewery at least 2 more times to get more kegs (of both beers). And it was an unannounced pre-release. Hours and hours later most of us were still there, and the verdict was unanimous. Zmajska’s Porter is simply brilliant. I love the emerging Croatian craft scene, and so should you.

After months and months of waiting and delays, because the company that made their equipment broke through every deadline imaginable, Zmajska Pivovara, the first Croatian western-style craft micro with its own plant put their beers on tap yesterday at, where else, Tolkien’s Pub in Zagreb. Were they worthy of the hype, of the wait, of the well deserved reputation of Andrej & Bojan?Damn right they were. Initially (as they were extremely busy) I ended up with a sample tainted by an improperly washed glass. Luckily I found that out in time, and got another glass to rerate... Lovely, clear darker amber body with a fine white head. The aroma blasts off with a slightly complex fruitiness mingling with mild underlying maltiness. Peach among others. The C-hops used are well integrated indeed, and this Pale Ale, and this ends up, luckily for the market, completely on the other side of the spectrum from the (also very nice) Nova Runda’s APA. The malty backbone is hardly hidden, and a lovely grainy note flashed through here & there, again, well integrated and welcome. In contrast to NR’s APA, the bitterness is somewhat toned down, only some mild notes in the aftertaste. In any case, a nice subtle PA, that’s a welcome addition to the market.
