Description
The Joseph Schlitz Brewing Company was an American brewery based in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and once the largest producer of beer in the United States. Its namesake beer, Schlitz ( /ˈʃlɪts/), was known as "The beer that made Milwaukee famous" and was advertised with the slogan "When you're out of Schlitz, you're out of beer". Schlitz first became the largest beer producer in the US in 1902 and enjoyed that status at several points during the first half of the 20th century, exchanging the title with Anheuser-Busch multiple times during the 1950s.
The company was founded by August Krug in 1849, but ownership passed to Joseph Schlitz in 1858 when he married Krug's widow. Schlitz was bought by Stroh Brewery Company in 1982 and subsequently sold along with the rest of Stroh's assets to Pabst Brewing Company in 1999. Pabst produced several varieties of Schlitz beers alongside Old Milwaukee.
Admin Note: Old Milwaukee was originally a Schlitz brand but Pabst has broken it off into its own separate brand.

In my hand is a 24 oz can of a brew now evolved apparently into The Bull. 5.9% it says at the top of the can. I have a shaker glass to catch enough for a look to determine color and head. Then on to a brown bag to handle the rest of the can. This will be interesting, I have not had a Schlitz of anything in probably 20 years. Likely more. The pour shows a clear light yellow with a spotty head of fairly white foam. I smell grain and corn. The taste is canned corn, grain and white bread, a bare bit of citrus, no particular character to have it stand out. A drink from the can improves the sensation. Though a relatively mild malt liquor, the beer does have a small presence to it. A big deal to some people back in the 70's. Nothing to dislike but there are plenty others I like more.

Bottle with a twist off cap. Pours a clear gold color with a small white head and fair retention. Good lacing. Grainy aroma. Classic sweet lager flavor with a light diacetyl finish. Not grainy tasting as expected. Clean, smooth and simple macro lager. Quite enjoyable.

24 oz can from Fred Meyer, $2. My wife's grandfather worked for Schlitz in Milwaukee, when they were still one of the big brewers. Memories of getting f@#$ed up on The Bull in college (early 80's). So, flash forward to 2018, and this malt beast is sitting here, challenging me. Initial impression...it's not horrible. Big malt presence with some heavy corn accents. Bright golden pour with small, tight creamy white head. Aroma is malts, grains, slightly vegetal. Tadste is more of the malts with a hint of alcohol. Sticky, sweet, malty finish with a light burning sensation. Thats the first two sips...this could be it for the evening. Or my next rating will be completely nonsensical and incoherent.

24 oz can. Pours a clear light lime green color with a fizzy white head that vanished instantly. No lacing. Strong artificial pineapple nose. Sugary sweet artificial pineapple flavor to match the nose. More fake tasting than their peach version. Slick mouthfeel. No beer flavor anywhere. This is strictly alco-pop. The 8.2 ABV is well hidden. This is a guaranteed hangover.
