Description
New York's Oldest Lager Beer. Respectfully Brewed in Upstate New York (F.X. Matt Brewing).

Born in New York City as one of the first lagers of its kind in 1842, Schaefer Beer won the hearts of locals and earned its claim as
'the one beer to have when you're having more than one'.

At the top of its game in the 19th century, Schaefer was a staple in stadiums (sponsoring both the New York Mets and the Brooklyn Dodgers), as well at the dining table. In fact, Schaefer's love for food ran so deep that it was put on display for the masses at the 1964 World Fair, drawing in droves of people looking for a smooth brew to pair with their burger.

Despite local fame and favor, rising costs forced Schaefer to close its Brooklyn brewery in 1976. In doing so, and amidst shifting consumer tastes, New York's love affair with the brand began to fade.

It's been nearly 50 years since that fateful day, and of course the city along with its people have continued to evolve in every way you can imagine. With that, so must we!

Can while on holiday in Saint Barthelemy. Clear pale golden color, white head. Aroma and flavor are hayish bitter and lightly malty. Nothing out of the ordinary, just your average pale lager.

Low carbonation, thin aroma. Taste is weak with distinct bread notes. Palate is similar to that of a pilsener, but slightly watered down. Refreshing, not awful.

From Oct 2008

Typical straw yellow colour with a good head of foam.

The smell is also typical for the style. Grain, a wee bit of malt and some slight hoppiness.

The taste is lightly flavoured with some grain, light malt, and some slight bitterness in the finish.
Mouthfeel is as thin as it can be and gets very watery.

Another "winning" light beer.

Btw, I used enjoy a few regular Schaefers when it was around.

Simply the best. Liquid nostalgia. Clear pale yellow pour with a white head and decent retention. Very good lacing. Clean, crisp, sweet light lager taste. Super refreshing.

12 ounce can. Can says brewed by the F&M Schaefer Brewing Company, Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Pale gold color. Big creamy white head. Faint grainy malt nose is barely negligible. Thin watery grainy malt flavor(?). Notes of hay and lemon peel. Pale and sickly, as old American lagers go. Had to revisit this old friend from my youth. Meh! Stay away.
