Bottle shared. Pours a very dark brown with a beige head. Aroma of coffee, milk chocolate, lactose and light roasted. Flavour is medium sweet and bitter. Medium bodied with soft carbonation.

Appearance: Pours black with a medium sized brown head and some lacing

Taste: Roasted malts, dark chocolate with a metallic bitterness in the finish
A nice solid Imp stout, not as good as I remembered it being but nice anyways.

From a bottle at home (drank Feb ’12) . Pours a rich black colour with a good finger of thick beige head which soon begins to subside reducing to half a finger within a couple of minutes. The aroma was of roasted malts, caramel and brown sugar. Not a ’big’ smell to this beer. The taste was more of a let down than the smell! A little smokey tasting, roasted malts and little caramel in the background, pretty much mimicking the smell but weaker in actual flavour! A slightly sweet and dry aftertaste. I didn’t enjoy the mouthfeel at all. Prickly carbonation and far too much carbonation also too watery. Overall a disappointing porter that got worse as the journey progressed. It looks good, but that’s as good as it gets! Way too watery and too highly carbonated. Will not go near this again!

Poured from a 355ml bottle into a ’Pforzheimer Hausbrauerei’ 0.3l handled glass (Mar ’12). Pours a ’light’ black colour, chestnut brown when held to the light with a huuuuge frothy tan/off-white head. The head subsided after a few minutes but retained a good finger pretty much thereafter. Dark roasted malts predominate on the nose with a hint of chocolate and caramel in the background. Roasted malts again at the forefront of the flavours allied to a little chocolate, a little smoke, slightly sweet and a slightly - but not overpowering - bitter finish. Mouthfeel is as good as any beer I’ve had of this style in Deutschland. Well balanced and just the right level of carbonation. Overall a very decent Schwarzbier and one that I’d happily have again!

On tap at Porter beer bar. Pours a black with a brown head that lasts throughout the beer with strong retention and laces nicely. Aroma has a nice combination of dark grains, pine hops and a bit of grassiness with just a hint of chocolate. Flavor begins with strong dark and roasted malts up front but is joined by a pine hoppiness and has even a hint of mint in the finish. Quite nice.

33cl bottle shared with Joes, Dutchdrebus and Ansjelaah. Pitch black color, small off-white to beige head. Smell malts, lightly raisin, some sweetness. Taste malts, some sweetness, lightly coffee, lightly alcohol. A bit watery, low to medium carbo.

Bottle thx to benzai @ joes. Pitch black, opaque colour with little to no head. Smells sweet, dark chocolate, roasty, coffee. Tastes dark chocolate, coffee.. Bit thin though. Very low carbo.

Bottle. Sweet chocolate, fresh pine, dark roasted coffee aroma. Black with a large brown head and thick creamy lacing. Ashy espresso, sweet chocolate, and minty pine flavor. Medium body, crisp astringent dry finish. Outstanding Black IPA! Smelled so good I couldn’t quit sniffing, and then later I burped pine tree (yeah, I know I’m not too lady like sometimes).

12 ounce bottle. Pours a black color with a large beige head. A sweet fruity nose with some roast and chocolates. A sweet fruity and pine flavor with mandarin oranges, spearmint (yes, I read the description) very smooth. A bit of chocolates, mint chocolates really with oranges. Sounds decadent. A bit thin. Very smooth and tasty.

355cl bottle @ home shared with Thompson. Clear red color, small off-white to beige head that disappears fairly quickly. Smell malts, fruits, slightly sweet. Taste malts, some fruits, wood, slightly sweet. Very balanced. Medium body, low to medium carbo.
