Bowler’s Brewery

I have also tried some new ingredients in my beers one of which was a heavily peated whisky malt which came with a warning from the maltster " be careful it's very smoky !" . I added some to my Historic Porter recipe and it worked really well , every pub that had it asked for it again , one pub took 3 casks !
In 2023 Bowler's acquired the brand and recipes for Hopshackle Ales. Hopshackle’s multi-award winning real ales were produced from its brewery in Market Deeping. Upon his retirement, the previous owner wanted a ‘safe pair of hands’ to entrust the ales that had he had developed over the previous 17 years, and we are delighted to continue the Hopshackle legacy.

Cask @ Navigation Tavern Beer Festival, Mirfield. Black with a thick frothy head. Has a high tropical fruit aroma and a higher taste in this respect. Medium bodied.

Cask @ Navigation Tavern Beer Festival, Mirfield. Golden with a thick frothy head. It’s sweet tropical fruit hopped and a touch thin in its texture, but retains a full aroma and flavour.

275ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Very similar to the VF - Orangey amber body, thin off white head. Orange peel aroma and flavour. Fairly sweet - just like a barley wine as opposed to an IPA as with the other. Alcohol warmth is there as it goes down to give another good finish, just not as oily rich. Excellent again!

330ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Dark amber, almost brown body with a dissipating tan head. The flavour is very fruity to start with some spice, almost winelike. Big robust round and oily body. Very nice finish, dry and refreshing.

275ml bottle from Beer Hawk - Dark black brown body with a small beige head. Aroma is roasted, chocolate malt, dark dried fruit, liquorice. Flavour is heavy sweet and bitter with dark dried fruit, liquorice. Nice oily body makes this a very nice one.

Bottle at my 5K tasting, thanks to Leighton. It pours deep amber with a small beige head. The nose is toasty, earth, orange sponge cake, sugar and candied peel. The taste is orange mandarin, mango, candy, icing sugar and bread with a sweetish finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. A bit too sweet in my opinion, but solid nonetheless.

Bottle care of Leighton. It pours deep amber with a small off-white head. The nose is earth, toast, muffin, orange sponge cake, citrus peel and brown bread. The taste is bitter-sweet, bready, orange sponge cake, muffin, apricot and light alcohol. Medium body and moderate carbonation. A bit hot and sweet, but pretty alright actually!

Bottle shared at the Scopey 5K tasting. Snagged at the Kris Wines a few years back. Pours clear, vibrant gold with a creamy head. The nose has a bit of alcohol presence along with ripe citrus and mild, bready malts. Fairly sweet with more pronounced bready malts now, dried citrus and other fruits, mild earth. Medium to full bodied with fine carbonation and oily mouthfeel. Light warmth to finish with sugary bread, light toffee, suggestions of oxidation, more aged fruits, faint woody dryness. Very nice though not as good as the VF.
