Bottle very kindly passed on by Nigel (Hopshackle brewer) Many thanks Nigel, shared with friends at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 17th 2010 The third of the four and I think the general consensus was that this may well be the best, I’m sure that most people said that they liked No:3 best. I’m amazed that I can even taste this following the tongue stripping hop monster that I’ve just had (namely No:2) Pours hazy amber with a good white foamy head. This has some nice streaky hops, there is a good pithiness, and its very soft in the mouth despite the hoppy tangs. Some perfumey flavour’s are the only oddity with this that I’m not too sure about, otherwise quite lovely. A7 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 3.9

Bottle very kindly passed on by Nigel (Hopshackle brewer) Many thanks Nigel, shared with friends at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 17th 2010 Yet again, apologies for sketchy notes, I was rating on my phone a criminal offence in Loz’s eyes. Pours hazy gold in fact veering towards orange. This is a beer that will really divide opinion, Nigel said that he liked it but there were plenty who couldn’t get on with it all and found it too much, Nigel also suggested that it could probably be kept for a little while and the aggressive hoppiness might just soften. Well I can tell you this is indeed very aggresively hoppy, quite dry and leaves a furry bitterness across a tongue that has just been totally ravaged by a huge hoppy onslaught. Not really my thing, but very interesting and great to try. Heaven help the next beer we try as this has just rendered my taste buds out of action temporarily. A6 A4 T5 P3 Ov11 2.9

Bottle very kindly passed on by Nigel (Hopshackle brewer) Many thanks Nigel, shared with friends at Merton Summer Beer Festival July 17th 2010 I’m afraid that my notes are very sketchy as they were taken onto my phone. Really tangy, soft mouthfeel, the bitterness in particular coffee simply glides through this. Quite malty and plenty of warmth from the alcohol. Quite shocked that this was based on an English Strong Ale, I think Nigel’s wonderful experimentation has moved this away from that category but as I was unsure where else this should go ESA is where I put it, though when we were trying these I think that a few of us would have been led to believe that this was a stout. From cask. Pours clear and golden orange to brown with a small off-white head. Aroma is spiced and mild fruity. Ginger and roasted malt in the flavour. Slight bitter and dry roasted malt finish.

Bottle picked up in a mixed box from the brewery, cheers Nigel 09-07-10 consumed 21-07-10 Pours dark amber with off-white filmy head. There are unripe hazlenuts on nose and some tangy fruit along with some dark sugar. Taste is nutty, little earthy and the nuts I got on the nose I get in the mouth, green cobnuts, some fruit and a little bitterness runs through. A6 A4 T7 P3 Ov13 3.3

Cask, gravity at Merton Summer Beer Festival, 16-07-10 Pours amber with a slim white head there is a touch of haze also. Interesting aroma, its hoppy, spicy and floral with some sweetness wafting on as well. Taste is lovely, wonderful bitter orange flavour but then the fruity sweetness floods through, lovely hoppiness throughout, touch spicy and peppery, bitterness and sweetness well balanced. Marvellous and one of my favourites. A8 A4 T8 P4 Ov16 4.0

Cask, gravity at Merton Summer Beer Festival, 17-07-10 Pours reddy brown with reasonably clear with small bubbly head. Fruity on the nose with just a little chocolate and there is a sourness sitting back. Fruity in the mouth a little plum skin, some chocolate again and a tangy sourness that is not overdone at all, bit of coffee and a touch of cherryness adding to that sour bite. Bottle from Stirchley Wines, Birmingham. Abbey tripel ?! shurely its more of a Fen strong ale and a seriously fine one at that. Complex sweet fruity nose with tobacco and leather notes. Flavour was pretty dang sweet and unfolded to reveal a great balance of malt and fruit that really won me over. Lovely warming booze hit. Definitely one worth seeking out and lingering over.

Bottle at home ... deep red brown ... thin tan head .. soft toffee roast malt nose ... nice roast ... light chocolate ... little thin ... nice but im not convinced that bottles in best condition ... so would like to try again ... saying that i quite like it.

Cask. Hazy amber golden with a creamy yellowish head eaving laces. Sweetish fruity - exotic - nose from the hops. Quite ful-bodied, low carbonation, intense fruitiness and caramel - very sweet - before rather distinct hops and alcohol in the finish. 200110
