Bottle 500ml.[ Trade by Fin ]. Clear medium to dark red brown color with a average to large, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white to beige head. Aroma is moderate to heavy malty, roasted, caramel, dark chocolate, smoke - peat. Flavor is moderate to heavy sweet and bitter with a long duration, a dry finish. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. [20090821]

Bottle at MesandSim’s tasting Aug 09. Black, lasting tan head. Black choc and espresso but with booze too on aroma. Good choc, in mouth it’s a bit like choc liquers. But too hot and boozy on finish. Choc is great. Finish burn needs work. Good liquer like drink

Bottle, courtesy of fonefan. A reddish dark brown porter topped by a tan head. Chocolate and lots of coffee on the nose, with burnt malts and hints of dried fruits. The flavor goes in the same direction, but a bit weaker. Still with burnt malts and coffee, some dried fruits and a nice hoppy bitterness, but the chocolate is gone. Dry, medium to full body and a roasted finish. A pleasant porter, probably lacking on sourness to be truly historic. Not that it matters. 090821

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. A deep dark brown pour, with little in the way of a head. Aroma revealed itself with a big jab to the beak pipes that had a big hit of rich dark chocolate and brandy soaked christmas cake. Lovely stuff. Silky smooth and warming, the flavour was on the sweet side and had a great balance of roasted malt and fruit that was very satisfying. A pleasure, and definitely worth a look.

Bottle, Carringtons, Chorlton. Poured a hazy bronze colour with a fading white head. Sweet, demerera and ripe fruit aroma with some leafy hop presence. Booze is pretty upfront in the flavour which is compensated for by the overall tasty nature; which whilst caramel malt heavy has enough hop character and fruit to make this a winner.

Bottle, 4.8%. Roasted papery aroma. Very dark brown colour, some red notes. Good chewy rye flavour, quite roasted with a little good citric note. Slightly sweet with a little creamy note. Well-balanced and good.

Brown with a medium beige head. Aroma had roasted malt, caramel and coffee notes. Flavour had burned malt, chocolate, coffee and hoppy notes. Finished dry and bitter.

Bottled. A red-brown beer with a brown head. The aroma has strong notes of nuts, caramel, and dusty hops, as well as a bit of butterscotch. The flavor is sweet with notes of caramel, butterscotch, wood, and nuts, leading to a bitter nutty finish.
