Description
I have been commercially brewing now since November 2006 ( there is still only myself here !!! ) . Since my last update some interesting new beers have been produced , inspired by some of the fantastic beers I have tried not only from the UK but also from the rest of the World in particular the USA .

I have also tried some new ingredients in my beers one of which was a heavily peated whisky malt which came with a warning from the maltster " be careful it's very smoky !" . I added some to my Historic Porter recipe and it worked really well , every pub that had it asked for it again , one pub took 3 casks !

In 2023 Bowler's acquired the brand and recipes for Hopshackle Ales. Hopshackle’s multi-award winning real ales were produced from its brewery in Market Deeping. Upon his retirement, the previous owner wanted a ‘safe pair of hands’ to entrust the ales that had he had developed over the previous 17 years, and we are delighted to continue the Hopshackle legacy.

Bottle numbered No:1 kindly passed on to me by Nigel at Hopshackle. Tasted at Fin and Craigs pre Cropredy Festival mini tasting at Merton, Oxon 12-08-09 Pours dark brown,it peels away to lighter brown at the edges not much of a head noted. Aroma is subtle but pleasant with roasty malts and dark mollasses the most dominant. Tastes is roasty and malty but also has a nice fruitiness, some warmh from the alcohol, its smooth, there is even some citrus noted possibly tangerine amongst that fruity edge, little bit of bitterness, touch of liqourice its very nice stuff and more than held is own in some very highly regarded company. Cask @ Harlequin Sheffield. Blonde. Lemon, oily hops and hay in the flavor. The aroma lacks a bit behind. Salty. Long hopbitter aftertaste. Nice one.

Cask, gravity at Merton Summer Beer and Cider Festival, 17-07-09 Pours light amber in colour with a great hoppy nose, that also reveals some light fruity touches. Taste is very hoppy with an undercurrent of honey sweetness, soft fruit shows again. Another very decent beer from Hopshackle, my only criticism is was that I found that the sweetness was a little heavy at times, still its been brewed to an 1850 recipe so I’m assuming that this what it would have been like anyway.
