Hopshackle
Microbrewery
in Market Deeping,
Lincolnshire,
England 🏴
Owned by
Bowler’s Brewery
Established in 2006
I have also tried some new ingredients in my beers one of which was a heavily peated whisky malt which came with a warning from the maltster " be careful it's very smoky !" . I added some to my Historic Porter recipe and it worked really well , every pub that had it asked for it again , one pub took 3 casks !
In 2023 Bowler's acquired the brand and recipes for Hopshackle Ales. Hopshackle’s multi-award winning real ales were produced from its brewery in Market Deeping. Upon his retirement, the previous owner wanted a ‘safe pair of hands’ to entrust the ales that had he had developed over the previous 17 years, and we are delighted to continue the Hopshackle legacy.

Handpull cask at the Tobie Norris, Stamford. Light gold, clear, with little head or lacing. Lemon, grapefruit and vanilla pod aroma, with a slight astringency. Sweet with a floral vanilla note, with more bitter citrus on the end of the sip. Bitter hops and botanicals on the finish. Different than most goldens, and all the better for it.

Cask. Sheffield Tap. Clear, pale gold. Film of sticky, white head. Kid next to me stinks of expensive, but shit, man perfume. At 5pm. Why? Where’s he going, other than home? Fucking reeks. His mum presses his shirts and he has trolley bags growing out of his arse. Beer has lost, big time.

Bottle at home, 03/04/16. Murky amber orange with a moderate off white covering. Nose is bitter orange, dusty hops, orange marmalade, caramel wafer. Taste comprises sweet malt, candied fruit peel, jiucy hop, mandarin, light mineral strokes, caranelised sugar. Medium bodied, moderate carbonation, semi drying close with a sweet finale, moderate hop bitterness and a boozey kick. Not bad to be honest and considering the age, easy going sipper.
