Description

Tap at the brewery. Med-thin body, med-high carbonation. Med-high bitterness, low sweetness. Background malt. Moderate citrusy and a bit tropical hops character. Could go much more crazy with the hops, feels a little bit watery, but really easy drinking. Good.

IPA from this brewery in Leuven, which only produces draught beers for on-site consumption but does can them upon request - thanks to Katia Warny ("the girl who loves beer") for bringing me a farm fresh can! Medium sized, egg-white, busily cobweb-lacing, bit irregular yet tightly knit and fairly stable head, misty peach blonde robe with pale orangey tinge and some disparate sparkles. Aroma of dried grapefruit peel, orange zest, old biscuits, rusk, unripe green melon, wormwood, moist white pepper, bread crumbs, petrichor, faint background hints of leftover dough, damp earth and rainwater. Crisp, fruity onset, but restrained in sweetness; hints of dried apricot and unripe peach, perhaps a dash of green banana, with slight sourish undertone and softish carbonation. Rounded, bit 'dusty', cracker- and bread crust-like malt core, increasingly bittered by an earthy, wormwoody and peppery hoppiness, adding retronasal accents of field flowers, grapefruit peel and orange pith and stretching out all over the finish, in which some yeasty spiciness and lingering bready maltiness also continue. Like so many IPA attempts in Belgium, a bit too yeasty perhaps, but if seen as a Belgian style IPA (in spite of the use of an American yeast strain), this performs well, with a generous amount of 'dark green' bitterness and no obvious technical flaws. Earthy and spicy, easygoing, quite accessible hoppy Belgian IPA, solid and tasty enough - no complaints here, just do not expect a clean, aromatic, sleek Anglo-Saxon IPA.

A little cloudy blond beer, small creamy white head, unstable, non adhesive. Aroma: very spicy, herbal, a bit yeasty. MF: ok carbon, medium to light body. Taste: malty, grains, a bit sourish, dirty, don’t like it at all. Aftertaste: grains, cow fodder, utterly boring, don’t like.
