Description
Metalman Brewing was born in 2011 when two beer enthusiasts decided they’d had enough of the outlandishly limited selection of beer available in Ireland, and decided to do something about it.

They started by contract brewing at a small brewery in Tipperary while building a brewery in Waterford city with a 6.5HL brewhouse. Draught Metalman started popping up in all sorts of places, and various brewery upgrades followed. At the end of 2014, they installed the first canning line at an Irish microbrewery, and cans of Metalman Pale Ale hit the shelves in January 2015. A brewhouse upgrade to 24HL followed later that year, as did various seasonal and limited edition releases.

Making beer is bloody hard work, but dammit it’s a lot of fun!

From cask by hand-pump at NWAF ’13, shared with Finn. Fading white, bubbly head leaving spotty lacing down the glass. Clear amber body. Smell of earthy malts, hints of caramel. Flavoured with tropical fruits, moments of spices and half-sweet malts follow by a short, bittersweet tail. Rather thin on the swallow. Acceptable (Manchester, 25.01.2013).

On draught at Bull & Castle in Dublin, from cask. This beer pours a murky brownish-amber color with a medium thick foamy white head that diminishes slowly. Partial sheets of lacing on the glass. Aroma of spice and wheat. Light-bodied with flavors of wheat, coriander and ripe fruit. The finish is fruity with a sweet spice aftertaste. Decent overall.

Tap at Hilden Fest 2012 - 25/08/12. Clear amber blonde with a thin white head which soon thins. Nose of ginger, rhubarb and sweet malt. Tastes largely follow the nose with a little zingy citrus leading to a bittersweet finish.

Cask at Hilden Fest 2012 - 25/08/12. Slightly hazed copper orange in colour - not a pale ale in my book! Sweet malt nose leaning towards caramel. Tastes a little of ripe tangy fruit with a bitter sweet finish, medium body with a commensurate level of carbonation.

Half a pint from tap at the Porterhouse in Dublin. Clear golden with a (small) white head. Spicy aroma (cardamom?) with hops, some fruit and notes of metal. A bit metallic taste with some bitterness, not so pleasant, a bit strange. Hints of citrus in the flavour. Lightly bitter finish with hints of spices. Ok beer, but nothing special. (2011-06-11)
