Taves Estate Cidery
Cidery in Abbotsford, British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦
In the barnyard, Billy – a sly goat -secretly stole some apples and made his own blend of special cider. However, unbeknownst to anyone, the other animals in the barnyard gang added their favourite fruits to Billy’s Best. Thank goodness, Farmer Loren discovered the cider and bottled it up so you could enjoy this unique barnyard blend.

Pours a pale hay color Aromas of fresh apples. Flavor similar, dry and a bit tart Like a mass produced cider. Nice when cold.

On tap at Brave, pours a clear colour with almost no head. Nose brings out gently sweet apples with not much depth. Flavour is medium-heavy sweet, with gentle apple skins and an apple juice concentrate character. Cheap commercial apple cider for the masses. Nothing interesting.

Bottle sampled at BC Cider Fest 2023, pours a clear blonde / near-water colour with almost no head. Aroma brings out subtle mineraly notes and crisp apple skins. Flavour doesn't have much going on, with earthy notes and muddled apple skins. Clumsy and uncoordinated. Poor.

On tap at BC Cider Fest 2023, pours a clear pinkish ros with a small white head. Aroma brings out gentle currants and light apple skins. Flavour is medium-to-heavy sweet, with jammy sweet currants. Not much apple character left. It's too sweet for me.

On tap at BC Cider Fest 2023, pours a clear blonde, no head. Aroma brings out subtle gooseberry and crisp apple skins — medium sweet. Flavour is much the same, with gooseberry, medium sweet, and light apple skins. Clean and lively but doesn't have much depth. Meh.

Deep red body with no foam nor visible carbonation, okay currant and soft sweet apple on the nose. Flavour is muddy currant and vague apple. Good fruity sweetness on the finish but again no carbonation, which helps no one. Meh.

Pours a pale rosé with minimal carbonation, very vague and soft apple and currant sweetness on the nose. Flavour is muddy apple with currant hints, full sweetness, but carbonation is missing and pulls the whole thing down. Nothing inspiring anyways.

Bottle from the cidery, listed at 11.2% ABV. No foam but okay carbonation, lighter pale gold body. Nice sweet grocery store apple on the nose with soft wood notes. Lots of wood, soft chewy apple, tannins galore, bourbon character arrives very late but it's welcome. Slightly boozy but eleven percent is very well hidden. Could be more complex, still pretty good.

Pours uncarbonated pale straw, tiny bubbles maybe. There's an interesting but subtle dry floral aroma, sweet burlap, grape leaf soaked in apple. Flavour is plenty of clove and burlap on sweet apple, and the lack of carbonation does this no favours. Musky aftertaste, modest sugar. An acquired taste.

So I guess this is their thing, to produce barely carbonated ciders, and I can't say they look any good. There is soft sweet berry on the nose, slight sharp cider, slight wood notes. Flavour is a mellow earthy berry, soft apple with burlap, vague candied orange. Full mouthfeel. Not bad but still a little muddled.
