Description
Arthur Van den Bossche founded the brewery in 1897. After his death in 1925, Elenora Callebaut, Arthur's wife and daughter of the Callebaut brewers and chocolatiers family, continued the brewery. In 1935 Willy and Mark Van den Bossche, the 2nd generation, take the helm and further expand the brewery. Ignace son of Mark Van den Bossche, 3rd generation, becomes active in the brewery in 1976. In 2015 Bruno Van den Bossche takes over the brewery from his father. The 4th generation is now taking the lead.

Bottle. Very dark brown with thick beige head. Choc aroma. Some choc in mouth, bit of spice, touch of dryness on end. Quite a choccy brune, but it carries the flavours well.

Bottle. Yeasty aroma with a hint of spices... green apple? Clear golden colour with a nice, stable white head. Nice and fruity flavour, unfortunately with some vegetable to it. Short aftertaste, quite dry.

Bottled. Red-orange with some yeast and a small, off-white head. Quite weak aroma with sweetness and some (dried) fruits. Mild, pleasant and sweet flavor with caramel and some roasted elements. Medium body. A pleasant brune. (060328)

Bottled. Hazy yellowish/orange colour with bubblyish, longlasting head. Acidic fruity aroma with hints of yeast and malts. Flavour is sweet fruity with some caramelly hints. Also sour yeasty and earthy notes. The sweetness is a bit acidic. Aftertaste of caramel and malts, with some hints of alcohol. Rich carbonation in the glass, but not felt in palate at all.

Bottle. Golden. Lasting white head. Yeasty, citric hop aroma. Really tasty blond with just huge bunches of sticky jellied citrus fruit, orange, tangerine and lemon amongst them. Good body, excellent malts, dryish finish with more jellied fruit flavour. This is rather good. Drank it watching Lyon vs Milan European Cup Quarter Final

A bit hazy orangy color, quickly vanishing head. Fruity aroma (peach), maltyness, slightly rubbery, sticky mix of sugar and alcohol. Watery palate, then bitter and fruity flavor: orange and grapefruit. Sweetish finish. Bittersweet aftertaste.

A bit hazy golden color, big white head. Suprisingly same kind of rubbery-wheat nose than Blanche Des Neiges, which I sampled recently. Aroma is also dry and papery, smell of metallic water. Spicey start, at the end sweet (added sugar?), banana and spelt (maybe it is actually oat, which seems to be used also here). Finish is empty and watery - seems to be with all of these Pater Lieven beers. Some sourness in the aftertaste.

Hazy golden color, big white head. Malty, plastic a bit unclean aroma with fruity notes (banana, pineapple juice). Carbonated mouthfeel. Citrusy (some lime and mango) flavor. Overall quite watery texture (same than with Bruin-version). Short fruity finish.

Dark ruby color, big off-white head. Sweet aroma, fruity (raisins), metallic, some herbal notes and lime peels. Suprisingly light. Carbonated and hard mouthfeel, licorice presence, a bit grassy too. As sayravai commented: watered version of Gouden Carolus -line. Drinkable but simple and light.

(bottle) Almost black coloured with a short frothy beige head. Sweet toasted malty aroma with sour fruity notes of blackcurrants and dried plums. Sweet and slightly sour flavour, medium bodied, well carbonated. Initially sweet malty taste with a tart fruitiness; sweet and sour alcohol-warming finish with liquorice spice.
