ZBF2008: From bottle. Pours hazy orange with a lacing white head. Light caramel malt and mild butterish aroma. Flavour is light toffee with a mild butterish note. Smooth caramel to toffee flavour and mouthfeel. Ends with a light lingering caramel malt flavour. Light herbal/spiced touch.

33 cL bottle. Pours clear and golden to hazy orange with a collapsing white head. Orange peel fruity and mild yeasty aroma. Light apple to citrus fruity flavour. Mildly sweetend. Has a light yeast spice note mixed with a mellow caramel malt note. Lingering fruity and mild yeasty finish. Smooth and nicely mellow brew.

[Session @ yespr] Brown with huge head. Sweet and vinious aroma with roasted malt, overripe fruits, tofee and chocolate. Sweet and fruity flavor with roasted malt and yeasty notes.

Bottled. Hazy dark color, medium off-white head. Aroma of malt, hint of chocolat, hop, some candy sugar. Sweet milky stout, hint of toffee. As the name says, it’s a belgian stout, and they usually do not resemble an english or american type of stout, but lean towards an abbey double.

33 cL bottle, thanks to BelJohansen. pours hazy orange to brown with a huge lasting off-white head. Light spiced caramel malt aroma. Flavour is mellow yeasty and light roasted malt aroma. Flavour is sweet into the finish, light spiced finish. Nice.

On tap at Max’s Taphouse in Baltimore during their Belgian fest. Let me say I hate beers that call themselves one thing when they’re obviously another. Pours a translucent deep brownish black with a white head that faded fast. Smells of smoked malt, yeast and wheat (nothing like a true stout). Flavor is smoked malt and wheat (nothing roasted like a true stout). Sour, funky finish (not at all like a stout). Just call this beer a dunkel and get on with it. Either way, stout or dunkel, this missed the mark.

Bottle: Poured a dark brown with a thick creamy beige head. The aroma is sweet fruit with spices. Taste is a burnt chocolate, very nice blends of sweetness and carbonation. This was an 06 bottle.
