In 1935 Willy and Mark Van den Bossche, the 2nd generation, take the helm and further expand the brewery. Ignace son of Mark Van den Bossche, 3rd generation, becomes active in the brewery in 1976. Bottled at the Belgian Embassy in Oslo. (75 cl corked) Clear, golden with a white head. Sweet and lightly spiced aroma and flavor, with some alcohol as well in the flavor. A full-bodied beer with a warming mouthfeel and a finish where the alcohol is in good company with spicyness. A nice beer, maybe a bit simple, but very enjoyable. (070103)

Bottled at the Belgian Embassy in Oslo. (75cl corked) A clear, dark brown beer with a nice beige head. Quite neutral aroma, with some caramel and spices. Sweet, lightly burnt flavor with caramel and some hops. Medium to full body and a finish with hops and caramel. A quite special stout, but it didn’t convince me. (070103)

Draught Fully clear copper-gold, very fine dense yellowish head, leaving classical lace. A strange nose with cooked veggies from the mussel pot; overlying more habitual sweet-malty notes. Mossy, too. Rather sweet, even portlike flavour (for a young blond beer!) but fading away fast, leaving a very neutral to sweet malt flavour. Precious little specific aroma’s, even when (again!) the cold isn’t helping. Light to medium bodied, quite slick. Too fade for my preferences.

Bottle: Poured a golden amber with white colored head. This has a floral citrus aroma verry sour to the nose. The taste was mild malt and quite bland versus the aroma.

On tap at the Pianeta Birra, Rimini, Italy.
Pours a dark brown almost black colour with medium sized beige head that went away very slowly. Slight roasted malty and mild dried fruit aroma with notes of toffee and milk chocolate. Alcohol is well hidden, but there’s too pronounced sugar in the finish.
