On tap at Porterhouse, Covent Garden. Deep gold, lasting creamy beige head. Now I’ve just been to Dusseldorf, home of alt and this is not like Uerige Alt at all. Too light in colour, none of the sharp flavours. No depth of malt, no herby hop. It’s a vague keg bitter.

Bottle, kindly provided by KnutAlbert. 10% ABV. A reddish, very dark brown body under a tan head. The aroma is a lovely blend of chocolate, coffee, licorice, malt extract alcohol and notes of oxidation. The flavor is even more lovely, with the same elements found in the aroma as well as a nice bitterness and a slightly more obvious oxidation note. The finish starts hoppy bitter, but soon turns coffee bitter. A beauty. (081031)

Bottle. Black colour with a beige head. Aroma is malt, licorice, cacao, chocolate, alcohol. Flavour is sweet, alcohol, licorice, chocolate, hop. Complex, but balanced beer.

Cask (handpump) @ Porterhouse, Covent Garden, London, England WC2.Clear medium amber color with a average, frothy, good lacing, mostly lasting, off-white head. Aroma is moderate malty, peat - smoked, herby. Flavor is moderate sweet and moderate to heavy bitter with a average to long duration. Bitternes is peat - smoke. Body is medium, texture is oily, carbonation is soft. (040808)

Cask at GBBF08. Clear dark chestnut colour. Good frothy white head. The flavour starts off roasted, turns a little spicy but not very good. Slightly rough bitterness in the finish.

Draught. Third pint measured glass on a sample tray at Porterhouse, Covent Garden London. Creamy, off-white head on top of a black body with some ruby highlights. Great laceworks on the glass. Smell of roasted grain. The taste is bitter with salty hints, but also some brief notes of sweetness can be spotted. Silky, but a bit thin, mouthfeel. Well made brew (05.08.2008).

Moderately, off-white head resting all the way on top of a pitch black body. Sweet coffee aroma. Roasted coffee beans in flavour turning into more coffee grounds towards the ending. Bitter finish (third pint glass on a sample tray, draught at Porterhouse London 05.08.2008).

Third pint, draught, enjoying ourselves at Porterhouse London (“real ale Disneyland”). This one got a nice off-white, creamy head leaving good laceworks on the glass. Dark body colour. Coffee and chocolate aroma. Dark, slightly roasted, bittersweet malts in flavour. Velvet mouthfeel (05.08.2008).

Draught strong ale served at a perfect drinking temperature at Porterhouse, London. An off-white foamy head over a shining mahogany body. Malty to the nose. Solid taste of dark and dried fruits on a malty backbone. Bitter endnotes. Almost full bodied (full pint shared with Geir, 05.08.2008).
