Description
St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labora (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach. The brewery, being far into the abbey's land, is not open to the public for tours or tastings.

Okay, fruity and saison-ish without being overly sweet. Gentle notes of grass and vanilla and tart peach, underlined by grain and a modest flora bitterness. Yeasty on the back end. Not my thing. Kinda stinky, too—the nose is rather off-putting.

Black with creamy head. Aroma has sweet Bourbon and sweetened creamy coffee. Flavour has lots of roasted bitterness to counteract the sweeter elements coming from the barrel. Very deep and rich.

Bottle sample during Gents Bierfestival '21 - shared with Tderoeck and Nathan.

12oz bottle. Really nice stuff, quite true to style. Caramel, red fruit, chocolate. Full bodied but quite drinkable for the ABV. Great mouthfeel. All around excellent.

Few cans at home. Ha dtontry a Trappist pumpkin. Pretty orange colored and few fingers of sudsy head. Nose is light spicing. Tastes very subdued of faint pumpkin and touch of cinnamon and cloves. Little pie filling sweetness at all. Pleasant but not really all that flavorful n

33 cl bottle poured into a Trappist glass. Hazy golden amber colour with a lumpy white head. Fruity aroma with yeasts - pears, banana and a spiced note. A herbal bitterness. Taste is light sweet. Medium bodied. Drying fruity finish. Fine and well balanced American in Belgian style.
