Pretty acceptable quad except for a lack of warmness and carbonation. Des aromes de caramel brulé, de dates fraiches, de raisins secs et de cannelle nous introduit un olfactif au malt dominant et complexe. Un liquide brun foncé aux reflets roux, très flou, avec beaucoup de particules en suspension, se couvre d’une petite mousse beige qui s’attarde assez longtemps. L’entrée de bouche se veut légèrement alcoolisée avec des notes maltées en abondance rappelant les dattes, le raisin sec, les figues. De subtiles houblons épicés nourrissent la finale qui se veut légèrement sucrée avec une touche d’alcool. L’effervescence n’est cependant pas à la hauteur. Le corps est ample et la texture veloutée mais elle manque un peu de chaleur. Très acceptable sauf pour un manque de chaleur et de piquant.

Bottle @ Smag på øllet tasting, Hørning Bibliotek. Slight gusher that pours hazy dark brown with a tan head, light lacings. Aroma of sweet malt, caramel, yeast, spice, cinnamon, nutmeg, light fruit. Flavor is sweet and light spiced, malty, belgian yeast, caramel, cinnamon, fruit. Medium body, average to lively carbonation, sweet mildly spiced finish. 271119

Medium/light body with a nice first taste but the aftertaste is a bit too perfumed/fruity for my liking.

Pours deep brown with a tan head. Aroma of booze, spruce, heavy malt. Taste has coffee, caramel malt, slight yeasty element. Palate has spiced malt residual with a boozy nose feel. Ferrous.

Definitely trappist inspired stout. It is thick and oily which i love, but not in an american way. Nice beer, lacking a bit of complexity and boldness to be fantastic. Online belgian beer factory

Second rating only in spite of this variant apparently having been in existence for months now, strange - and since I had this one two days ago, it appears I could even have been the first one, damn you, backlog... Anyway, a new Spencer IPA variant, apparently sold both in bottles and cans. Off-white, medium thick, lacing, mousy head on a misty warm apricot-golden blonde beer. Aroma of dried orange peel, toasted onions, dried shallot, dry biscuit, fried green olives, baked banana, elderblossom (as observed by Marie), pine resin, some cheese rind. Cleanish fruitiness in the onset, low in sweetness with hints of green banana and unripe peach, softish carb, soft mouthfeel; bread-crusty, somewhat 'powdery' malt body, quite rounded, under a dried onion- or shallot- and dried grapefruit peel-like hoppiness, adding a softish yet persistent, lightly spicy bitterness with herbal and vaguely cheesy aspects; a tad piney in the end, dry but still rounded. This will not impress the masses of beer geeks that are have become used to IPA in all its modern forms: this is rather old school, and seemingly even a bit softer than the regular Spencer India Pale Ale we already know. Otherwise both versions hardly differ at all, with this one being a slightly 'lighter' version (in flavour and strength), it seems. Enjoyable for what it is, certainly, but one can wonder what the purpose of only a slightly different version could be...
