Description
St. Joseph's Abbey in Spencer, Massachusetts, is home to a community of Trappist monks and the first American Trappist brewery. Following the Benedictine tradition of ora et labora (prayer and work), the monks pursue a simple life of contemplative prayer, manual labor and hospitality. The brewery helps support the monks and their charitable outreach. The brewery, being far into the abbey's land, is not open to the public for tours or tastings.

Bottle. Color: Orangish golden, very small white head. Taste: Fruity, orange peels, flowers. Starting medium sweet and malty but the long lasting finish is bitter. Sticky and dry mouthfeel.

Very dark brown color. Lots of dark fruit, roasted malt, brown sugar, slightly sweet nose. Light medium body with good roasted malt character that leads to a bit of smokiness. Dry. Nice smokiness with dark fruity finish. Light body but really nice

75cl Bottle from Vonk. Black colour, beige head. Aroma of figs, dark fruits, roasted malts, some liquorice, chocolate, some coffee. Flavour is medium sweet to sweet, quite fruity, dark malts, dark fruits, figs, chocolate, some roast, caramel, a bit of coffee, bittersweet finish. Medium to full bodied. More a roasty quad than a RIS imho, but it’s a tasty one.
