Description
Our story begins with a Bat. Instead of seeing the Bat as a symbol we should fear, we trusted our bat to be a symbol of re-birth, intuition, dreaming and vision. Bats are nurturing and in tune to the sensitivity of others within their group.
Bats are the Guardian of the Night. Bats are the symbol of the end of a way of life and the start of another. Trust your instincts, follow your bat. In 2010, like many others in Michigan, we lost our jobs. Both of us. At the same time. We had just welcomed our first baby into the world. The job market was terrible. Money was running out.
One night, a bat flew into our living room, what we now can see as a positive omen. It was shortly after that we scraped every last penny together and took a gamble on our dreams. Being unemployed and getting an SBA loan was hard, most said it would be impossible. We fought, and we made it.
We take pride in the craft we have a passion for. Being a gathering place and giving back is a huge part of who we are and a symbol of our gratitude for the community that embraces and supports us. Everything is connected.
Luck brought us our Bat and it is our mission to spread the symbol of the Bat onto you. Thank you for indulging in our dreams, sharing our visions and most of all, for keeping us happily employed.

Slightly hazy medium golden colour, tall frothy off-white head, good retention, fair lacing. Subdued aroma, pale malt, butterscotch, light grapefruit, pine. Taste medium sweet and bitter, malty, citrus, butterscotch, pine resin. Hoppy bittersweet aftertaste, orange pith, spicy notes, medium body, oily texture, soft carbonation. Bit unusual but well-made and very good American IPA.

Bottle shared at Alex's birthday. Thanks Mike! Pours a deep brown to black with a finger of beige head that dissipates. Maple, caramel, chocolate and pecan on the nose. Smooth and balanced on the palate with toffee, cacao nib, baker's chocolate and maple syrup all working in harmony. A little booze on the finish as it warms up but overall enjoyable.

12 oz bottle. Pours black with a light brown head. Molasses and bourbon aroma, chocolate, indistinct fruit. Flavor of cocoa, molasses, bourbon, and soy with red grape backing them up. Grape and lemon more prominent in the finish and especially the aftertaste. Ashy at times. This is really tasty, and the grape citrus finish adds a really nice touch for me.

16 ounce prowler into snifter, filled on 12/1/2018. Pours opaque dark brown/black color with a 1 finger dense and rocky tan head with awesome retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Dense soapy lacing clings on the glass, with a light amount of streaming carbonation. Fantastic appearance. Aromas of big milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, juicy strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, molasses, smoke, charcoal, raisin, fig, tobacco, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/black/roast/bready malts, PB, strawberries, and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast notes; with great strength. Taste of huge milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, juicy strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, and dark bread; with lighter notes of vanilla, licorice, molasses, smoke, charcoal, raisin, fig, tobacco, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness. Light-moderate pine, herbal, peppery hop; roast/charred bitterness; and light fruit tang/tartness on the finish. Lingering notes of milk/dark chocolate, cocoa, peanut butter, juicy strawberries, fruit skin/seeds, coffee, caramel, brown sugar, toffee, toasted biscuit, dark bread, vanilla, licorice, molasses, smoke, charcoal, raisin, fig, tobacco, herbal, pepper, pine, and yeast/roast/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Fantastic complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, PB, strawberries, and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; with a nice hop/char bitter/sweet balance, and minimal acrid/astringent flavors after the finish. Lightly increasing dryness from lingering hop/char bitterness. Light-medium carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, creamy/silky/velvety/bready, and fairly sticky/resinous/chalky/tangy/tannic balanced mouthfeel that is great. Mildly increasing warmth of 9% after the finish. Overall this is a fantastic flavored imperial stout! All around outstanding complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/black/roast/bready malts, PB, strawberries, and light-moderate earthy hop/fruity yeast flavors; very smooth and dangerously easy to drink with the modestly bitter/resinous/charred/drying finish, not overly aggressive. Amazing balance of rich malts, jammy strawberry, and PB flavors; with nice earthy hop presence/balance against sweetness. A highly enjoyable offering. Would have preferred it a bit less bitter/drying, but still really impressive all around.
