Description
Conceived as a ‘nomadic’ project, The Beak has spent several years creating unfiltered, seasonally-inspired beer with friends at some the greatest UK breweries, including North Brew Co, Partizan, Beavertown, Burning Sky and Northern Monk. We've now laid roots in our hometown of Lewes in East Sussex, where we've built a 15-BBL neighbourhood brewery and taproom with a mixed-fermentation project and weekend street food canteen. Please come and say hi!

Can. Little Leeds Beer House. Dirty, murky light brown. No real head. Ugly beer. Nose is brighter than it looks, with notes of stewed pineapple and ripe peach. Some crisp citrus. Some oaty cream. Taste is a little sweet, turning dry and light bitter. Thin on the palate. Light but prickly carbonation. Dry and light bitter finish. I was looking forward to this, as Beak do some interesting beers, and this is probably their most “normal” yet, so was keen to see how it came out. I suspect it’s another beer gone down the pan due solely to poor quality packaging methods. Shame.

Medium plus sweetness, light bitterness. Medium body, slight sticky texture, soft to average carbonation. Finish of lightly smoked cheese, and slightly salty.

Bottle. Tall Boys, Leeds. Viscous pour. Dark brown in the glass. Ring of lasting, tan head. Nose has bonfire toffee. Red wine dregs. Tobacco. Soft, sweet smoke. Some date and plum. Taste is sticky sweet, with a vinous, smoky bitterness. Mouthfeel is a little thin, and maybe doesn’t match the beer’s first impression. Soft carbonation. Finish is vinous and smoky bitter. Pretty good overall, but I’m not sure the base beer is big enough to stand the barrel ageing?

On tap at Bundobust, Manchester, Thursday 30th March 2017 Smoked aroma, a little sausagey. Soft in the mouth, a little wood smoke rushes into the mouth, some hops leech out, but fruit and a caramel edge temper the smokiness, lovely. A6 A4 T7 P4 Ov14 3.5

Black beer, beige head. Main aspect of both the scent and taste is earthy malt and bitter dark chocolate. A splash of zesty fruit but only a hint. Aftertaste has that and a touch of licorice too. Rich and drinkable.
