Description
A small independent brewery based in Glasgow's Southside, established 2019. We value quality, tradition, innovation, and doing things a bit differently.
Simple Things is about brewing beer with a sense of place, exploring beer styles that aren't always easy to find and using ingredients that extend the flavour spectrum beyond current trends. The beers are often modern takes on traditional styles, or contemporary styles with a twist.
We love to drink big, juicy hazy IPAs with Ctira, Mosaic, Simcoe etc but that’s not what we do. There are plenty of people already making a really good job of that.
Exploring beer styles and ingredients that are not so well represented is what gets us excited. Our Big Ideas Series is where it all began; a range of styles that includes crowd-pleasing favourites such as Golden Ale, Table Beer and Session Stout alongside the more esoteric likes of Wheat Wine, Scottish Light, Peated Pale and Bretted 80/-. We recently introduced our Core Range, comprising a US-style Pale Ale brewed with only European hops and a Czech-style Pilsner. Our new Seasonals range is where you’ll find beers that are right for the time of year.
We use local and foraged ingredients when we can. All our beers are vegan friendly, unfiltered, unpasteurised and naturally carbonated through re-fermentation. We hope you enjoy them.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM I think. Pours clear yellow-gold with a foamy, white head. Lightly sweet with some certain yeast character, a little bubble gum, grass, wheat flakes, lemon peel, biscuits. Light bodied with active carbonation. Decent balance to finish, some grassy hops, more citrus peel, saison yeast, straw, grain husk, more dried wheat. Tasty saison.

Can. A light haze on this yellow gold beer, decent bubbly pale cream colour head. Smooth palate, slightly soft, just moderate fine carbonation. Smooth as a baby's arse pale malts, modest sweetness, but not undersweet. Mild lager tang in the mid. The Saaz and Kazbek hops deliver a smooth soft pine, a juicy soft floral lemon, and a watery but not unpleasant fruit melange. Trace of like before the light semi dry finish. Nice Pils, very quaffable. Could definitely be a tad crisper mind.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours hazy pale golden - orange with minimal head. The aroma is soft, sweet, tangy orange marmalade, peach cordial, green banana, banana split, light spice, wheat cracker, honey and biscuit. The taste is firmly dry, bitter - sweet, tangy, juicy, bright, orange marmalade, peach ice tea, green banana, slightly chalky, honey cake, warming spice, biscuit, cracker, wheaten bread and a nip of booze with a drying finish. Medium+ body and fine carbonation. Drinks easier than it should. Decent enough, but would be elevated with a hearty dose of carbonation.

Can from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear copper with a small, fluffy white head. The aroma is rather fruity on the snout, apple, rhubarb, cranberry, toasty grain, brown bread, cereal, cola cubes and orange marmalade. The taste is firmly dry, bitter - sweet, toasted grain, brown bread, cola cubes, dried fruits, raisin, sultana, cranberry, rhubarb, fruit cake, touch of spice and ryvita with a dry, toasty finish. Average body and fine carbonation. A nice fruity Vienna.

Cam from Westhill Service Station. It pours clear brown with a small bubbly white head. The aroma is sweet - sour, zingy, bright, pithy, zesty, vibrant lemon, brown bread, touch of warming spice, dusty, gingersnaps and dull toffee. The taste is firmly dry upfront, pithy, zesty, lemony fun times, lemon cordial, puckering, sherbet, toasty grain, brown bread, ryvita and touch of spice with a zesty finale. Light body and fine carbonation. Works quite well. Very drinkable stuff.

Can at home in Hackney - picked up from HOTM. Pours clear honey-gold with a small, foamy white head. Light-medium sweet flavour with notes of lightly toasted malts, touches of stewed apples, a little caramel. Light bodied with fine carbonation. Finishes with further toasted malts, subtle apple, low bitterness. So so overall.

Can from Appellation Wines. Pours clear brown with a thin off-white head. Aromas of lemon and brown bread. Taste has ginger snap, toffee and more lemon. It's nice, but it's not shandy bass enough for me!
