Crow Peak Brewing Company started in the spring of 2007 as a modest 5-barrel brewery with on-premise sales in the form of pints and off-premise sales in the form of 64-ounce growlers. The brewery was extremely successful, and in order to provide a quality local beer to other parts of the State and beyond, a brewery expansion was in order. The beautiful new brewery building opened for business in December of 2009.

However, our beers were still being brewed on our 5-barrel system while we were waiting for our new 30-barrel brew house – three 60-barrel fermentation vessels and 60-barrel bright beer tank to arrive and be installed. Installation of the new equipment, plumbing, wiring and boiler system was completed in June of 2010. In addition to the larger brewing system, a Cask automated canning line was brought online in the fall of 2010, allowing us to distribute our product in both draft and packaged form.

By the end of 2015, Crow Peak Brewing Company was producing 2,000 barrels of beer annually and was distributing its products in South Dakota, North Dakota, Nebraska, Wyoming and Minnesota. We were finding it hard to keep up with demand, especially in the summer months so we underwent a second expansion in 2018. With two additional fermentation vessels and one additional bright beer tank, we are now able to produce approximately 5,000 barrels annually.

Can. Light corny malt aroma. Yellow with a small, almost instantly dissipating white head with no retention. Sour malt, and grassy bitter flavor. Medium body, lively carbonation. Blech.

From notes at Great Nebraska Beer Festival. Aroma has a moderate amount of malt character with quite a bit of caramel and some cracker notes. Medium light pine resin and grapefruit hop notes with some grass present as well. Pours a clear, dark golden orange with a thick white head that shows quite a bit of retention. Flavor is similar to the aroma with quite a bit of malt character. Lots of cracker and biscuit with moderate caramel notes. Medium grapefruit and pine resin with some grass notes. Moderate bitterness. Mouthfeel is medium to medium full bodied with medium carbonation. Low astringency and low alcohol warmth. Overall, I found this IPA to be too malty with a rather boring and somewhat grassy hop flavor. Oh well, I ticked South Dakota.

Can @ RBSG Grand Tasting. Pours a golden color with a small white head. Has a fruity malty citrus hoppy aroma. Fruity malty citrus hoppy flavor. Has affruity malty citrus hoppy bitter finish.

During RBSG 2014 Grand Tasting at Schlafly Tap Room. Yellow with off-white head. Aromas of caramel, citrus. Tastes of caramel, pine, citrus. Medium-light body with a dry finish. Not bad.

Can , shared by Cunningham. Dark brown colour with abeige head. Aroma is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel. Flavour is roasted malt, chocolate, caramel, cocoa. Nice beer.

From notes. Draft. Hazy orange amber color, small off white head. Aroma of floral citrus. Taste is more malt forward, but with a bit of earthiness as well. Overall not bad.

Reviewed from notes. Received in trade.
The appearance had a dark brown to almost black color, one and a half finger white foamy head that dies within less than a minute; some lacing, but not too much.
The smell had a roasty sort of coffee to chocolate coming through in a combined sort of way.
The taste was a nice bitter roasty coffee taste with a decent chocolate-ness coming through. There is a slight bitter roasty coffee aftertaste with a quick dry coffee-ish finish.
On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium on the body with a decent sessionable aspect to it. Carbonation is good for the style and for me as there’s enough bitterness invading the mouth and tongue but not too much to lead one astray from the style.
Overall, I say this is a good American Porter well worthy of having again and also has a decent sessionability to have with its respected food.

Red Water Irish Style Red Ale from Crow Peak Brewing Company

The appearance was an amber to red colored body with a quick dropping one fingered head that levels out practically immediately - whoah, weird, but ok, no worries, for the most part.
The smell was a roasty sort of carmel-ish maltiness coming through on my nose.
The taste was sweet and roasty with a decent caramel malty aftertaste and a dry finish.
On the palate, it sat about a light to medium, and could be somewhat sessionable to the palate and almost a decent beer to have with food.
Overall, hmmm...could this be a beer with food, I think so, not bad, and worthy of having again because its an American Red Ale. If I got a six pack, I’d most likely pour half of it in a beef stew and drink the rest. Worthy, drink up, you beer drinkers!

Recieved in trade.
The appearance was a clear golden close to a yellow colored body with a super thick one and a half fingered white foamy head. It rises a tad and drops at a nice pace yet it still maintains a decent level head for the most part, lacing is sporadic and clings all over the place - for the most part - its a nice show.
The smell has a nice piney and somewhat floral sort of aroma gracing my nose in a somewhat earthy/herbal sort of way.
The taste was sweet piney and floral-ness coming through and leaves no aftertaste but a slightly dry finish.
On the palate, it sat at/about a light to medium, hmmmm...sessionable - sure - I think I could see this with some pepperoni pizza. Carbonation is just right for an AIPA.
Overall, in my opinion, this is a good AIPA, well worthy of anyone who seeks it, nothing wrong with it however, there’s nothing spectacular either.
