In 1989, Free State Brewing Company became the first legal brewery in Kansas in over 100 years. Since opening the doors at our Mass Street HQ, we’ve been working day in and day out to be a haven for beer lovers, where good beer and good food can inspire lively conversations and memorable experiences.
Our 14-barrel brewhouse is made up of some of the best equipment available to the small brewer, but we still think the most important ingredients are the care and respect that our enthusiastic, knowledgeable staff has for each and every beer that we make. And now that we’re producing bottled beers in our expanded bottling facility, our attention to detail and dedication to great taste and quality can be experienced by people all over Kansas and Missouri.

Draft at the source. Clear deep amber color. Floral aroma with light cherry. Taste is lightly sweet herbal cherry nice. Reminds me of sakura.

4 oz mini goblet draft at Bier Station in Kansas City, Missouri. The pour is a clear golden with a foamy off white head that leaves behind great lace. The aroma is pungent resin, dank earth along with cracker malt. Fresh and bright The taste is the clean, fresh resin hop notes, with the crisp cracker malt and the super fresh dry finish. The palate is medium bodied with soft carbonation and a natural mineral resin finish. Nice, clean and tasty.

Draft/Fest. A- Pine, bitter. A- Mahogany color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Oak, subtle bitterness, complex. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, complex finish. O- The oak is there but otherwise not much going on but some bitterness. Okay beer but I think the base beer is actually better.

Draft/Fest. A- Oak, stone fruits. A- Mahogany color, cloudy liquid, off white head. T- Woody, rotten fruit, pear, peach. P- Full body, average texture, average carbonation, bland finish. O- I’d say this one is a bit overrated, but it’s not entirely bad by any means. Just not the complexity I think it should have to make me say wow.
