Šušvės Midus (UAB Lietuviškas Midus)
Meadery in Kėdainių, Kaunas County, Lithuania 🇱🇹
Established in 2015
The founder of the company is a third-generation beekeeper, to whom the beekeeping traditions were passed on by his grandfather and mother. At the moment, we have our own apiary, where 200 beehives lick. Mead was already made by my grandfather, my mother, from whom I took over the secrets of mead cooking. In 2015, it opened its doors as the only producers of traditional mead in the country.
Our family is located in Kėdainiai district, Plinkaigalis village, on the shore of Šušvė, next to the famous Plinkaigalis mound and iron age cemetery. According to archaeologists in our country, mead was already known and drunk during various holidays and rites in prehistoric times. So, continuing the old traditions of the country, using my mother's experience, my knowledge, I founded a mead brewery. Mead is a natural fermentation, unspirited alcoholic beverage. All our mead is made from our bee honey , so we can always ensure high mead quality. When cooking mead honey, we do not regret – each litre of mead contains up to 750gr. of honey. We do not use any chemical additives in production, only natural raw materials (small amounts of sulphites in the composition occur spontaneously during the manufacturing process).
We ripen mead for at least 1 year, some species of mead ripen at least 3 years. Mead color, taste, smell is given by the main ingredient- honey. Matured mead tastes noble, uninconstruedly sweet, full. We pour our mead into bottles of original design, the corks are covered with natural beeswax, so the aroma spreads even without opening the bottle. This drink is recommended as a great gift or souvenir from Lithuania.

Clay-bottled. A light golden mead. The aroma has strong notes of honey as well as notes of spices and flowers. The flavor is very sweet with notes of honey, flowers, and alcohol, leading to an alcoholic finish. Thanks faroeviking for sharing.

Blond color. Clean honey aroma and taste, sweet; a touch of herbs and spices (juniper); solid and well brewed, with a little vinous complexity.
