12 ounce bottle from Wine Warehouse in Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear red color with a medium sized creamy white head. Decent head retention and lacing. Aroma of caramel, bready notes, spice, buttered popcorn. Taste is caramel, bread, buttered popcorn, apple and other fruity notes, bitter finish. Medium bodied and fairly smooth. Good stuff.

Bottle on 02/15/2010. Clear golden body with a small frothy off-white head. Sweet floral and earthy hop aroma on a pale malt background. Sweet floral, earthy and tea-like hop flavor with a pale malt background. Medium body with moderate carbonation.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market Charlottesville, VA. Pours a clear dark amber color with a medium offwhite head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel and leafy hops. Taste is herbal hop notes, caramel, toasted malts. Certainly fairly bitter. Medium bodied. The aroma and taste both have a bit of a faintly salty note that detracts a bit but this is overall decent.

12 ounce bottle from Whole Foods Market, Charlottesville, VA. Cool to see these guys in Virginia, as I’ve heard good things. Pours a clear deep copper color with a tan offwhite head. Fair head retention and lacing. Aroma of brown sugar, wood, spuce, wet dog. Taste is very strong spruce along with molasses and brown sugar. Nice caramelization note. Generally I get a weird gummy taste out of spruce beers which this one avoids, and though the flavors seem to be discordant on their own, the whole is greater than the sum, and this one works quite nicely. Medium bodied, smooth, fairly strong carbonation.

Bottle on 10/18/2009. Very clear golden amber body with a medium creamy white head. Spicy floral and light citrus aroma with some sugary notes. Sweet toasty malt flavor, some honey notes with a lightly spicy and floral hop background. Medium body with high carbonation.

Bottle. Pours a pale amber with an orange hue with minimal white head. Aroma is full of grassy and piney hop notes. Flavor has strong grass notes with an undertone of hops.

Aged in cellar for a few years (not labelled by me or brewery). Deep dark brown coloured body, about 95% opaque with a large soapy light brown head - and a loud fizz when the bottle was opened - definitely seemed bottle conditioned with all the carbonation after the cellar. Aroma of alcohol, metal, cherries, oatmeal, whiskey and a bit of oak. Medium to Full-bodied; Assertive cherry and coffee flavours with some mild malt, oak and faint woodsy flavours. Aftertaste shows potency with alcohol, whiskey, cognac and even some turpentine coming through. Overall, a good beer - definitely strong, but perhaps the age assisted in that. Nice to try, a nice somewhat sweet (showing cherries throughout) beer that has plenty of malty and alcoholic kick! I sampled a few (3 maybe?) year old bottle from my cellar at home in Washington on 02-December-2009.
