Bottle shared at Kenny’s 20K, thanks to Manny, 15/01/16. Black with a decent tan covering. Nose is rich roast, spice, dark chocolate, orange chocolate, dark malts. Taste comprises dark fruit rinds, black pepper, hint of liqourice, chocolate, subtle barrel. Full bodied, fine carbonation, semi dyring close with a light boost. Ok impy, a touch hot in places but a decent enough sipper.

4 week old can into a stange. A: Deep gold pour with fast falling head Slow bubbles rising. S: Smells of green apple, alcohol and light toast. T: Dry tart taste is mainly hoppy with dry grassy flavor. A little fermented fruit. M: Medium/light bodied with average level of carbonation and dryish finish. O: Had high hopes for this but found it fairly average. Smells sort of like cheap wine and it’s not all too refreshing. Kolsch lovers advised to try it though.

Bottle [2012 edition] @ home. Opaque pitch black color, medium sized quickly diminishing dark brown head. Aroma is malts, bourbon, bourbon sweetness, vanilla. Lovely. Flavor is dark malts, soft roast, loads of bourbon, vanilla, pretty sweet bourbon flavor flowing into chocolate and light mocha before ending with a moderate malt-slight booze bitter finish. Medium body, oily and lightly sticky texture, soft carbonation. Good beer for sure, but I was so blown away (4.7) by the original that perhaps my expectations were a little too high. Thoroughly enjoyed it though.
