3900th review! 22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled on 2/22/2014. Pours slightly hazy dark ruby/brown color with a 1-2 finger dense light khaki head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Light spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass, with a fair amount of streaming carbonation. Aromas of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, fig, apple, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, light coconut, floral, light citrus peel, and oak/toasted earthiness. Damn nice aromas with great balance and complexity of dark/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light hop notes; with great strength. Taste of big caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, fig, apple, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, light coconut, floral, light citrus peel, and oak/toasted earthiness. Light bourbon/oak spiciness and citrus/floral bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, raisin, fig, apple, vanilla, bourbon, toasted oak, light coconut, and oak/toasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Incredible complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light hop flavors; with a great malt/oak spiciness balance and zero cloying sweetness after the finish. Light carbonation and fairly full body; with a very smooth, moderately creamy/silky, and lightly sticky mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming lingering after the finish. Overall this is an incredible barrel aged American Barleywine style. All around awesome complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/bready malt, bourbon barrel, and light hop flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. Pretty minimal hop presence, but being that the original beer was made in 2009, I wouldn’t expect much at all. Extremely balanced between the malt and barrel complexities. A highly enjoyable offering.

Bottle at Kenny’s 20K, big thanks to Manny G. It pours jet black with a decent light tan head. The nose is rich, bitter - sweet, oily, vanilla, toasted coconut, toffee, rice pudding, earth dark fruits and fruit cake. The taste is bitter, rich roasted malts, chocolate cake, charred stuff, umami, toasted stuff, cracked black peppercorn, cacao nibs, rye whisky, some alcohol warmth and rocky road with smooth finish. Medium - full body and fine carbonation. Rich and chewy. A rather nice barrel-aged imperial stout.

Bottle @ home. Opaque pitch black color, full sized dense brown head. Aroma is malts, light roast, chocolate, a hint of liquor. Taste malts, again light to moderately roasty, slightly sweet malts in the distance, chocolate, a touch of mocha, softly bitter. Medium to full body, suitable fairly soft carbonation, velvety mouthfeel, oily texture. Absolutely delicious! One of the best beers I’ve ever had. Fantastic!

A hazed golden amber ipa with a thick frothy lacing off white head. In aroma, nice biscuit malt with grassy floral hops, resinous and piney, herbaceous character, very nice. In mouth, a nice biscuit malt with resinous floral hops, grapefruit pulp, herbaceous character, very nice. On tap at the Grumpy Monk Myrtle Beach.

Bottle thanks to Seth. Pours a hazy orange copper with small beige head that lasts. The aroma is toffee, raisin, bourbon. Thin mouth, caramel, candy sugar, light booze, good.

Clear amber colour, white head. Hoppy aroma, fruity, candy, strawberry vanilla. Bitter flavour, fruity, honey, sweet malts. Hoppy finish, quite fruity. Nice!

Crisp pure golden and honey tinted body with a rich, large four centimetre tall pure white head. Aroma of grain, light malt, rice, crackers, alcohol and some metal notes - not too pleasant. Light-bodied; Strong malt and cracker/biscuit flavour with a mild grassy and floral note and not much else behind. Aftertaste shows a mild sweetness with some honey and fruit and a little floral flavour, but mainly just malt and a hint of metal. Overall, a decent beer, but too meek and mild to be good - just a ho-hum beer and not worth searching out for. I sampled this sixteen ounce can purchased from Charleston Beer Exchange in Charleston, South Carolina on 19-April-2015 for US$2,99 sampled at home in Washington near the end of Summer on 15-September-2015.
