Cask at Smithfield, Derby. Pours almost black with minimal cream head. There’s chocolate and roasted malts in the aroma. Dark fruits and malts to the fore initially in the mouth alongside traces of plums and figs. After a while liquorice comes through strongly to dominate the flavour. Overall it is quite sweet though. Finish is dry and slightly bitter. This is decent.

500ml bottle. Gluten Free. Golden amber colour, foam white head and aroma of malt, grain, citric. Taste is sweetish, malty, bready, with citrus and tangy, earthy bitterness. Medium bodied, soft carbonation, drying bitter finish. Quite OK.

A: hazy amber, thin, frothy, off-white head.
A: coffee pad, rusk, granola, oats, biscuit.
T: sweetish rusk, burnt toast, biscuit, bitter coffee.
F: herbal hops, peanut, rusk & coffee.
P: medium body, slick texture, soft carbonation.
Not bad, just a bit of an 'old coffee' effect.

Cask at the Blue Boar, Leicester. Mid-gold, deep colour and maybe a slight haze with a slightly loose off-white head. Grassy notes, grapefruit peel with filter coffee grounds. Sweet taste at first with some bitterness setting in quickly. Not sure if the coffee isn't getting in the way. Really bitter notes in fie finish. Oily body, soft carbonation. Passable but unbalanced.
