500ml Bottle conditioned: BBD 7th Aug 2013, poured at home some 8 days earlier into an ’Abbot Ale’ glass tankard. Lovely black colour with a full and lasting beige head. Chocolate esters and tastes rule the brew completely, rich and creamy feel to the whole brew: a chocolate orange flavour arrives as the beer warms in the glass, which sets it apart from other Porters I’ve tried. Really enjoyed this beer, my fourth and final bottle during a ’random tasting evening’ I undertook with myself.

What a rare brew. Black as The Night, with a small beige head. More or less like floating chocolate. Actually a quite nice and pleasant brew!

Keg at the Euston Tap - 29/10/12. Now re-branded as Great Yorkshire - Blackout Stout. Still at 5% ABV. Very dark mahogony brown approaching black with a decent off white head. Good lacing ensues. Light roast malt on the nose with a touch of chocolate in the background. Tastes of chocolate pudding, light malts, a touch earthy. Medium bodied with moderate carbonation leading to a smooth roasty finish. Decent enough stout/porter.

Cask@The Mudlark (near London Bridge). Golden colour with a small white foamy head, that leaves a quite rich lace. Aroma is fruity, floral and grassy hops with some mild malts and some slight wooden notes. Flavour is bigtime bitter floral and grassy hops with mild fruity and nectary notes. A bit watery palate. Very bitter finish.

On tap at the Magpie. Hazy deep red beer. Good cream coloured head. Light semi dry palate. Good creamy malt with a trace of toffee. Ok orangey hops. mild bitterness. Finishes smooth and semi dry. Reasonably well balanced but as Ian says below it’s not an IPA and was out-muscled by the other IPAs on offer tonight in the Magpie.
