Bottle from Malt & Vine. Pours hazy ruby/brown with a small beige head. It has that strong malty smell suggesting it’s like fresh Gales Prize Old Ale. Not that I can remember having that fresh, but I can imagine. This one has that heavy fruit sugar aspect. Who knows how it will age. I certainly won’t. Medium plus body with lightish carbonation. Flavor is stone fruit and malt - in a dark way - with a touch of sour, and perhaps a touch of diacetyl. Hope not. Very smooth. Finishes smooth, fruity and malty. There’s some bitter fighting here, but overall this approaches barley wine. I guess the low ratings reflect chacon a son gout. Well it certainly works for me.

Bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of fonefan. Pours a clear reddish brown with a rough off-white head. The nose has some roast and burned caramel. Medium body, quite some roast that gradually grows a little more bitter ending with quite some malt bitterness. There’s a light underlying tartness. Calling this "rich" is maybe a little much... 170910

Bottle. Plum and toffee malt aroma. Medium orange-brown with minimal head. Sweet tangy green orange/plum and light malt flavor. Light body. Okay but really not near enough malt flavor.

Bottle at home ... deep red brown ... thin tan head ... sweet toffee roast ... little chocolate nose ... little fizz ... soft mellow ... chocolate ... little toffee ... soft ovaltine malt ... tasty enough ... but lacking a little in body to truely excel. 3?5 cask at hectors ... deep red brown ... sweet cchoc nose ... big chocolate front... soft cherry roast... real nice up front ... gets little wearing over time ... better body than btl .... stick at 3.5

500ml bottle - Well I see from scanning the other reviews that I didn’t get a bad bottle. It’s supposed to taste this way. So here we go. It pours dark amber with a medium, fluffy head. There’s a malty aroma with a hint of spice. The malt led flavor is quite tart and in an odd tasting way that doesn’t really go with this style. The hops is definitely in there with some moderate bitterness, but even it seems kind of off. It also needs a little more body. This beer is thoroughly unimpressive. I’m really not sure what they were going for here. It looks good and smells okay, then it starts going downhill.
