Bones Brewing

Client Brewer in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada 🇨🇦

Established in 2020

Description
The founding of Bones brought two friends living at opposite sides of the globe back together to brew fantastic things on the coast of BC. Garrett, a seasoned salesperson and marketer in the local craft scene, and Mike, an award-winning brewer based in Asia picked up the challenge of entering the highly competitive craft market while in the midst of a pandemic.

With a background in biochemistry, Mike turned a decades long hobby of home-brewing into a revered brand in Asia, taking home several gold medals at international BJCP competitions. When Covid mandates forced the closure of his brewpub, a planned vacation back to Canada became a permanent move. Bones was launched in October 2020 with a goal to brew world class beers using available tank space at local breweries. By sharing production with operating breweries, we minimize our carbon footprint, increase efficiency, and give much needed revenue to companies struggling due to the pandemic.

Poured from 473mL can. Dark brown with minimal beige head. Vanilla, chocolate, decent, but slightly thin, needs a little more to round it out.

16oz shared with Ryan @ Alex's. Appearance: brown with a beige head. Aroma: semi-sweet, some inky notes, vanilla. Taste: along the same lines, moderately sweet, and quite bitter. Overall: bitter and harsh for me, not a fan.

473 ml can. Pours a reddish black with full tan head. Aromas of sweetened chocolate, soft vanilla, and rich roasted malts. Flavors follow same with additional lactose notes. Big, chocolate-y and sweet though not as complex as the label description…

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver, almost 3 months old
Hazy dark blond colour. The aroma is lightly dank, hints of grains too. Soft mouthfeel, off dry, medium body strength; mild husky flavour, mild dankness and resins but overall it has some vegetable component, cardboard, that although light, are distracting; some may even feel a touch of butter.
Feels like it's too old, but it's ok.

Poured from the tap - dink pour. Cloudy yellow with small white head. Lots of passionfruit, quite a bit of tartness. Getting a touch of kviek, but not much in the way of hops, super feint.

Poured from the tap. Ruby red with small off white head. Tastes like the sweet raspberry juice you buy in 1L bottles at the grocery store. Not bad, but quite artificial.

Can from High Point, Vancouver
Light blond colour, hazy, dull hue. Some piney resins, dry mouthfeel, light malt base, some corn husks, and pithy bitterness; suspected butter aroma too. Modern West Coast IPA, but not very well executed.

Clear gold with a decent white head. Pale malts and sweet sticky tropical notes, almost a bit vomity. Sweet and sticky tropical notes and pale malts with some bitterness. Not really cohesive and all over the map.
