With a background in biochemistry, Mike turned a decades long hobby of home-brewing into a revered brand in Asia, taking home several gold medals at international BJCP competitions. When Covid mandates forced the closure of his brewpub, a planned vacation back to Canada became a permanent move. Bones was launched in October 2020 with a goal to brew world class beers using available tank space at local breweries. By sharing production with operating breweries, we minimize our carbon footprint, increase efficiency, and give much needed revenue to companies struggling due to the pandemic.

473mL can, pours a clear golden with a small white head. Aroma is all fucked up – with plenty of sulphuric, farty notes – Jesus tittyfucking Christ. Flavour is messed up as well, with rotten eggs dominating, destroying anything pleasant that could be underneath. Well this is fucked.

Poured from 473mL can. Clear dull blonde gold with minimal white head. Bizarre farty wheat aroma, very dry pils malt, high bitterness grass hops, something seems very off about this.

Pours a very blackety-black body and only modest beigy foam on top. The aroma is a nice sweet biscuit, plenty of vanilla and hazelnut, reminds me of the old school macro porters that used to roam the land. Taste is a bit of licorice, molasses and biscuit, ending quite dry with lingering cocoa. Alcohol invisible, this is nice if not exceedingly complex.

Weak foam on a hazy orange body. Lots of overbearing tangerine on the nose, quite close to those fake orange drinks they sell. Taste is chewy malt, more tangerine, bitter mango with slight hints of pine and ending dry. Seems a little janky, not too bad though.

Tons of vanilla here. Too much. Roast and caramel. Chocolate. Macadamia. Black pour with good mocha head and lacing. Sweet finish that sticks with you a while. Sticky consistency. Can.

473mL can, pours black with a large light brown head. Aroma brings out lots of molasses, burnt sugars, cocoa and a bit of vanilla. Flavour is full of dark brown sugars, vanilla and cocoa. There's moderate-to-high sweetness that is somewhat reined in by the burnt molasses notes. Not complex but well-structured, deep and satisfying. Very good.

473 ml can. Pours a murky red/purple with no head. Aromas of jammy currants and blueberries plus wheaty malts. Flavors of think chalky blueberries and wheat with a nice tartness to balance.

Can from The Gull, North Vancouver
Dark brown colour, poor head. Dominated by dark sugars, some chocolate, some vanilla; sweet, bold, not boozy.
Very good.
