Lovely refreshing and tasty ale. Hazed golden in the glass and a fine head. Fine intensity in the aroma. Balanced sweetness and a fine carbonation level. Malty, wheat, fruity, mild banana, mild citric and some yeast in the flavor. [Bottle fromTierenteyn-Verlent at Groentenmarkt in Gent, Belgium] Brewery #2591

Goudgeel bier met mooie stevige schuimkraag. Smaak is bitterzoet en fruitig met iets van bloemen en wat graan. Heeft een warme afdronk die lang blijft hangen.

Medium, dense yellowish head, stable, over (cold)hazed orange beer. Sharpish malts' nose, garden weeds, white candi sugar, toasted malts, 'hot'. More of the same, toast even more pronounced, bit of human sweat, some spices, grains, persimmon. Warming up a bit, nutty and liquorice. Burning MF, spritzy carbonation, very slick, medium bodied. Seems pretty well attenuated. Another one for the "Thirteen-to-the-dozen" league.

17/III/21 - 33cl bottle from the client brewer, tasted blind and shared @ home, BB: 8/XII/22 (2021-205) Thanks for the bottle!
Clear orange beer, small creamy white head, little stable, adhesive, leaving a nice lacing in the glass. Aroma: very malty, grains, cow fodder, bit of caramel, sweet impression, hint of ginger. MF: ok carbon, medium body. Taste: very malty, grains, cow fodder, hay, pretty bitter, coriander, some banana peel, very yeasty, metallic touch. Aftertaste: malty, yeasty, grains, hay, lots of coriander, pretty bitter, sugary touch, overripe banana, bit metallic, not a big fan of this beer.

from a trade with tderoeck.
Tasted blind as requested by my dealer :). Cloudy blonde, nice white head. Nose is malts, herbal, bit spice. Taste is malts, bit fresh hops, spices. Well yes, another blonde, not the worst I must say but nothing new too. Don't know if I would've ever bought it when I saw it with the label and name but I must say Tietje en Boezemvrienden is well found.

Bottle from Allumette, Ghent. Hazy goden, big, frothy, white head. Aroma of ripe apricot, oxidized apple, yeast, pear, iron, cooked vegetable, wet grass, celery. Taste has sweet apple, pear, some banana, bready-doughy malty profile with a spicy-yeasty edge, some iron; bitter spicy middle leading to a grassy hoppy finish, lingering ripe yellow fruit, whiff of vegetables, spicy clove & coriander supporting a jenever-like alcohol glow, even a bit wry at only 7.5%. Medium body, slick texture, average carbonation. The hostesses at Allumette told me that the 'Boezemvrienden' wanted to brew a beer for a breast cancer awareness initiative, but the combination of alcohol and cancer seemed inappropriate. Even though they let go of the idea, part of the income of Tietje goes to that initiative. It's a shame that this beer's character still seems inappropriate, whilst the execution is far from spectacular.

Tietje, doe mij er maar twee roughly translates as titty - I'll have two please... Developed by two Ghent hobby brewers calling themselves De Boezemvrienden - clearly female breasts are the ultimate source of inspiration here, but apparently part of the profits are reinvested in breast cancer research, a message not conveyed anywhere on the bottle, with a notably sexist effect as a result... At least they are honest about where it is brewed (BeerSelect, also in Ghent). Thick and frothy, eggshell-white, irregularly but tightly lacing, bit pillowy head sustained by strong sparkling, rushing upwards from the bottom of the glass in a central column; warm orangey-tinged 'old gold' robe, crystal clear initially, but misty and deeper peachy with sediment, still with a visually attractive 'storm' of gas swirling through it. Aroma of ripe banana, a whole lot of dusty old coriander seed, some DMS piercing through (overcooked broccoli), soggy old bread, withering grass, sweet potatoes, ferrous spring water, parsnip purée, cloves, breakfast cereals, hints of celeriac, soap and damp earth. Fruity onset, peach, banana and cooked apple, sweetish but not cloying, spritzy carbonation with light minerally effects; supple, bit 'fluffy' mouthfeel, but with a slight metallic edge to it somewhere, especially at the back. Soft-bready, even somewhat doughy but also more 'hardly' cereally pale maltiness, grassy hoppiness which - combined with that metallic side note - results in a 'industrial standard pale lager'-like feeling, if it were not for the dusty-soapy coriander seed which provides a dull spiciness in the end. Gentle hop bitterishness - too gentle, I would add - pairs with this coriander effect, light breadiness, some retronasal DMS (though fortunately not too strong), lingering 'yellow' fruitiness and some clove-like phenols to compose the finish - a finish that equals the finish of a gazillion other similar beers in Belgium. I hope these guys' ambition to encounter their own beer in a pub comes true, but I also hope it will not be the pubs I tend to frequent in Ghent: I have had more than my share of boring, stereotypical blonde and tripel clichés by now and this one only adds to the pile of pale lager-replacing, overcoriandered, bland Belgian blondes. There are way too many of these beers around already - usually with more gallant and less body part-obsessed names (with the notable exception of that Klootzakske, of course...). It is fortunate that the proud city of Ghent, my home town, has a lot more exciting beers to offer - so for interesting new beers, check out Dok, Totem (though technically not in Ghent anymore), Brouwbar, Humboldt & Gauss or De Laatste Drinker, to name a few.
