Half pint at the brewery, pours a murky amber with a wisp of off white head. Nose has malt, prunes, raisins, some spice. Nice and not over done. Flavor has some soapy astringency, a little bit which must be the alcohol, otherwise malt and dried fruits, fruit cake. Finishes mostly full bodied. Very tight and restrained.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a nice and relatively thick, tan two centimetre tall head that provides a nice layer after a few minutes. Aroma of smoked meat, toasted malt, caramelised sugars and a dose of cereal with a light hint of dry yeast, but the smoked malt and meats are strongest, by far. Medium-bodied; Strong toasted malt and especially smoked flavours dominate with a lot of malts and also a pleasant sweetness that shows some molasses and pure toffee, but the smoked grain notes are still the most pungent with a mild sweetness and some bitterness, but that's mainly from the malts without any real hop flavours or nuances. Aftertaste shows some grain, bread, smoked meats and malt with a light sweetness, but not much else, this is fairly simplistic and strong, but giving a good dose of both pungency and nuances throughout the beer. Overall, a nice enough smoked lager with a lot of earthy, rustic notes and a good but fairly small sweetness that tries to provide a good balance, but the malt and especially smoked notes are way stronger. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Whole Foods in Arlington (Pentagon City), Virginia on 12-October-2020 for US$3,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 14-November-2020.

12 oz bottle, pours clear dark amber with brief small white head. Light to medium body. Hops and caramel aroma, malty sweet taste upfront then hops bitterness at the finish. Not something to have a second round of.

Deep dark brown coloured body with a copper tint and a thinnish, single to perhaps two centimetre tall just off-white head. Aroma of toasted malt, metal, a light dose of caramelised sugars and toffee with some fruits like apples and pears with a dash of light grain and some alternative malts. Light to Medium-bodied; Strong rich malts dominate with a lot of caramelised sugars, toffee, earth, nuts and some specialty grains coming through with oatmeal and even peat coming through towards the end. Aftertaste is rich and almost fully malty with some light sweetness coming through the cracks, but a touch of bitterness mainly from the malts and a lot of dry earthy and nutty flavours finish things off along with a faint fruity note with some apples at the very end. Overall, a decent Vienna that shows some nice malty qualities along with a soft earthy and nutty flavours without much else complexity (which is okay), and no hop notes at all of course. Not necessary to sample, but if you are in the area and can find this very easily and make a mixed six pack, Like I did, this wouldn't be a bad choice for one of those. I sampled this sixteen ounce, pint-sized can, purchased from Giant Food in Manassas, Virginia on 19-May-2020 for US$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 20-September-2020.
