Draft at DoG St. Pub, Williamsburg VA: Grass nose, not real strong. Cloudy golden, medium head. Grainy and grassy, muddled with no clear transitions. Not a bad beer at all.

Crisp copper coloured body with deep amber glows and a ruby tint, complete with a one centimetre tall tan head. Aroma of malt, toffee, light caramel, a hint of nuts and some cardboard. Medium-bodied; Assertive honey flavour with some mead mixed in, a decent amount of malt, some light citrus flavours and a good sweet finish. Aftertaste shows some light complexity around the malt with a little light caramel and a lot of nuttiness on the finish. Overall, a decent Scotch, with more sweetness than expected, less complexity and a little nutty. I sampled this twelve ounce bottle purchased from Total Wine in Alexandria, Virginia on 23-May-2012 for US$1.79 sampled at home in Washington on 16-August-2012.

On tap at brewery as well as from growler immediately afterward. This beer poured a pretty clear yellow-amber color with a thick, foamy white head, not unlike the Downright Pilsener that they make (the base beer). Aroma was sweet malts, with a bit of grassy notes, and a touch of mild hop characteristics. Highly drinkable for a style that I’m always on the fence about, but given this was an accident, I certainly give them props for salvaging the brew!

Bottle. Light musty lemon, coriander, and wheat malt aroma. Cloudy golden yellow with moderate head. Musty-sweet lemon, coriander, and light wheat malt flavor. Nice but would have like more malt flavor.

From tap at Cedar Crossing, Takomo metro station. Pours hazy orange with a small and lacing white head. Aroma is fruity, grapefruity and light pine. Fruity and bitter. Sweet impression to start with alongside a grapefruity hoppyness. Turning dry, bitter and still fruity into the finish. Smooth hoppy into the far finish.

12oz bottle pours a lightly hazy, deep gold with some creamy white head. Nose of grass, lemon, malty, yeast, hay, a little metallic. Flavor is sweet, malty, hay, lemon, grass, light honey. Medium bodied, crisp finish. Exactly what it says... a down right, well done pilsner.

Total Wine, Fairfax 355ml ($1.80): Pours a golden colour with a white head. Aroma is grass, grain, German hops, and straw. Taste is moderately bitter, but not that intense. Sweetness is minimal, if at all present. Body is excellent. I suppose that the freshness of this beer gives it an extra point or two, but this was a very nice crisp, bitter pils. I think Port City is really getting its act together and is putting out some very well-made sessions.

Draft at NOVA BrewFest. Poured a mostly clear amber color with a white head. Aroma was grassy notes, touch of herbal hop notes, touch of bread. Flavor was mostly crisp malts, touch of grass, notes of citrus, bready malts. I think they may have nailed it, but pilsener is certainly not my favorite style, so this one is a bit tough for me to rate.
