Description
In 1996 Pabst, once one of the largest breweries in the United States closed down its production in Milwaukee after 152 years. Since then Pabst’s legacy brands like Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR), Old Milwaukee, Lone Star, Rainier, Stroh’s, Old Style and Schlitz are brewed under contract by third parties. For nearly two decades, MillerCoors brews and distributes all of Pabst's beers under an agreement. In 2019, it has entered with City Brewing Company into a 20-year contract production agreement until 2040. Pabst will gradually transfer from 2021 until 2024 its production from MillerCoors to City Brewing.

I purchased a 473 ml can at an edgy convenience store near downtown Montreal last week. No proper glassware available so I’m tasting out of the can. The scent is very much the basic beer smell. Barley, grain and malt. Taking a sip confirms the nose, I taste barley, sweet malt, water and a bit of metal. Similar to the usual PBR I guess, wish the fridge had run cooler. Likely the session would be more enjoyable. But this is not a bad beer, I’ve had many that fall short of this one. I’ll have to finish the can to determine the impact of the ABV.

Not sure how I missed this cheap can before, I was certain I did it already. Pour is typical clear lager pale with some white head. Sweeet canned corn nose. Tasting this just a little chilled, probably should be cold as ice to drink. First big swig is that of most other macro 'ice' pale lager. Drinkable, but has that volatile background going on in there. Yes, think any of your american pale lagers and add the word ice to it. Funny thing: Now I see we haven't rated any Pabst Ice since 2018 and this is when the rating for this 'extra' started. Is it a coincidence? I don't think so, hehehhehh. Well the pabst ice was 6% and this is 6.5%, so it must be a slightly different recipe.

Drank from 355mL can after Horror on Hastings @ The Rickshaw. Sweet corn malt, some cereal notes, a nothing macro lager. Meh.

Ok this was the beer included in my burger deal. Golden lager with a thin white head. Its actually decent for swill, with light corn adjunct, light mineral notes, innofensive.

Aromas and flavors are basic world budget lager- pale malt, adjunct and a touch of hops. Flavors are also leaning sweet but with enough bitter and carbonation to balance. A little bit of buzz on the back of the tongue from the carbonation after a larger sip. Great beer to have in a neighborhood tavern with a shot of something like Beam.
