Description
In 1996 Pabst, once one of the largest breweries in the United States closed down its production in Milwaukee after 152 years. Since then Pabst’s legacy brands like Pabst Blue Ribbon (PBR), Old Milwaukee, Lone Star, Rainier, Stroh’s, Old Style and Schlitz are brewed under contract by third parties. For nearly two decades, MillerCoors brews and distributes all of Pabst's beers under an agreement. In 2019, it has entered with City Brewing Company into a 20-year contract production agreement until 2040. Pabst will gradually transfer from 2021 until 2024 its production from MillerCoors to City Brewing.

Nothing wrong, nothing to like. Drink it very cold. yellow. Reminds me of tasting Grandpa’s beer as a child.

This is a beer to drink to get back to the roots of Americana beer drinking. Your grandfather enjoyed it, you should too. Once was at a bar and bought two cans of PBR and the bartender told me $1.50 - I asked "Each?" and was told "No - that’s for both." Sour barley malt aroma. Light yellow color with moderate head. Surprisingly well blended barley malt and light hops flavor. Man, truthfully a nice tasting pale lager - definitely better than the big boys. Addendum: On a desperate night at my mothers, I was looking for a nice big bottle of beer to drink in her basement (re-living my youthful days). I had already went through all the 4 Lokos and Malt Likkers at the store, wasn’t in the mood for Mickeys, didn’t want to deal with a bunch of 7 ounce Little King bottles, and wanted something different from the typical BMC Tall Boys. Out of the darkness (or brightness, it was a very nice beer cooler), I see a 40 of PBR at the sequester busting price of $2.99. Oh well, might as well take a chance. Sneaking the 40 in my mom’s house under my coat in my tried-and-true method tested numerous times in the late 80s, I get it down to the basement. Twisting the cap off, I am rewarded by a mild barley malt flavor with no skunkiness or corn syrup aroma at all. Nice balanced barley malt flavor as well. Dammit, I hate to agree with the friggin’ hipsters but this isn’t bad at all. A solid pale lager still.

So, I’m about to sample my first Pabst... Wait a minute, that smell is vaguely familiar, so is the taste... This isn’t my first one, but it is the first I’ve had since i was about 14. Taste is somewhat grassy and corny, as you’d expect out o an ultra-cheap beer- but it’s really not that bad. I could see myself sitting around and drinking this at a BBQ where I wasn’t in charge of the beer.

Ah Pabst. Now that takes me back. To days at the racetrack in the glaring hot sun, wifebeater in play, sitting behind women with big hair and too much perfume, watching Jeff Gordon try to catch.....um wait, Ok, I never did that. The closest I have come to Nascar is turning the channel as quickly as possible when I encounter it on tv. It’s just that Pabst brings out my inner redneck. In reality I am at the In-laws farmhouse sitting down for a game of poker. I failed to bring my own beer with me, so when the father in law brings out the Pabst I am not in a position to refuse. Even if one can get past the idea that "Pabst Beer" when spoken quickly sounds like a female medical procedure this is one wretched excuse for a beer. Sampled from a 12 oz can ( does this stuff even come in a bottle? ) this stuff pours a very pale yellow with a large white head. Light straw aroma. Light straw flavor. Not at all good. The only saving grace is at least when it is slammed down cold there is little enough character and flavor to be completely revolting. But all things considered it was worth the price I paid - Hell since I did well at the poker game I guess I was even paid to get rid of the stuff :’)

You know... this was always in my fridge as I was growing up... always... and because it's so cheap, there was always so much of it. Therefore, I could grab a can here and there and it wouldn't be missed. I once heard someone put a French twist on the name ("Zhhhooobelllee"), but that sure didn't make it sound any better. This beer is junk, plain and simple.

I have to admit that I prefer this to macroswill otherwise known as "Budweiser" or "Miller." This went down well tonight, considering Miami's (OH) resounding victory over Bowling Green for the MAC Championship. Golden-bodied, with a sour socks aroma. Has some flavor (albeit mostly adjunct) and still goes down smooth. A good cheap bar beer for the masses.

Not much to write about this one. Thin, watery, light yellow. Small trace of hop aroma. slightly bitter taste. The best thing about it is the price. --- Beer merged from original tick of Schmidt on 21 Aug 2018 at 18:27 - Score: 1. Original review text: 9/8/03
