Associated Venue: Sullivan's Taproom
Established in 2016
The Smithwick Family in partnership with direct descendants of the Sullivan Family had a vision to re-open the once-great brewery in the city where it all began. They enlisted the help of Ian Hamilton, one of Ireland’s most eminent contemporary master-brewers. Together they are bringing artisan brewing back to Kilkenny. If people thought that brewing in Kilkenny was dead and buried, they are in for a rude awakening…
Brewed at Dundalk Bay. Some small batch beers brewed in the taproom.

Can. Nitro. A black one with a dense light tan head leaving lacing. The aroma is driven by burnt malts, with roasted notes, some dark dried fruit and licorice, and a hint of coffee grit. It's medium bodied and super smooth on the palate, with a decent bitterness from the burnt malts. Burnt malts, roasted malts, some licorice and treacle, some cocoa hints and a touch of bread crust. Medium length finish, dry. A nice British Isles stout. 240323

440ml can from Vinmonopolet Langnes. Good looking in the glass with its stable, beige head blanketing the glassware. Coal black body. Moderate smell of milky malts, roasted. Smooth taste of mid-sweet chocolate malts. Prolonged ending with lightly roasted, chocolate malts. Velvety smooth on the swallow, a little thin though. Pretty good. (Tromsø, 12.03.2024).
