Associated Venue: Sullivan's Taproom
Established in 2016
The Smithwick Family in partnership with direct descendants of the Sullivan Family had a vision to re-open the once-great brewery in the city where it all began. They enlisted the help of Ian Hamilton, one of Ireland’s most eminent contemporary master-brewers. Together they are bringing artisan brewing back to Kilkenny. If people thought that brewing in Kilkenny was dead and buried, they are in for a rude awakening…
Brewed at Dundalk Bay. Some small batch beers brewed in the taproom.

Pounder pint can @ 3.25$. Very dark beer, to say its ruby red is a misnomer, its much darker brown than that. Nice pour with a creamy tan head. Nose is a civilized mild malty mix. First taste is quite surprising for a red ale, I'm so used to the domestic killiams red. This stuff has more old world personality without being rude. It's a friendly burnt wood near malty attitude, and it comes across as quite enjoyable, a good example of what a darker beer should be. It shows its historical culture. Its so good mannered, decorous, gentlemanly, gracious and at the same time ladylike. I'm digging this red ale, probably one of the better Irish red ales I've had in a long time. Right up there with some of my faves like; Beaver Horny Sheepherder, Brew Keepers Eireann Dearg, Biker JD's Rumblin' Red, Church Brew Imperial Irish Red & Rooney's Old Irish. Yea baby! Thanks Sully, I'm glad I picked up this euro pint.

Draught at Glory: pours black with creamy head. Lots of coffee, dark chocolate, some fruitiness. Not super dry. Lightly bitter. Some bitter aftertaste. Pretty good.

Bottle, big almost gushing bubbly head, hazy quite dark orange colour, aroma of citrus and peach with a bit of malt, flavor of herbs and malt, medium bitterness. Nice.
