(bottle) Clear and deep golden colour with a medium frothy white head. Herbal hoppy aroma with hints of toasted malts. Crispy mouthfeel, malty taste with notes of sourdough and a light hoppy finish with traces of liquorice. Not bad but very decent.

Bottle: Very dark amber coloured, thin, brownish head; malty nose with traces of coffee, burnt malts and molasses; rather sweet- malty beginning; dominant sweet flavour; the malty taste becomes dryer towards the end; bitter-sweetish aftertaste; maybe not bad, but this cloying brew is not very moreish or deceptive............

Bottled (from Pivni Galerie Praha): Golden coloured, firm medium creamy white head, lively carbonation; hoppy, grassy aroma; yeasty and malty (bready) start, shy, short hoppy aftertaste with some metallic/medical(?) notes; a bit thin bodied and bland, disappointing, because the fine aroma promises more........

Bottled (my 5000th rating at Ratebeer) Bakalar 10° is still my highest rated Czech beer on my own page, even though the old brewery closed down long ago, and I have the old Pivovar Rakovnik poster still on my wall. So it was a delight to find the beers from the re-opened Pivovar Rakovnik at Pivnie Galeri in Prague.
It poured deep golden with rich head and a spicy, somewhat metallic aroma. It was dry with dense, soft malt character, low on diacetyl. Rather bitter finish. It was probably more technically correct than the version from the old brewery, but also with much less character.

Bottled. Dark brown, rich head. Roasty, sweet and light bodied, but not thin. Lightly hoppy with low bitterness. Very drinkable.
