Can from Westside. Black, a tan head retreats rapidly to the rim. De Molen-esque inky mocha Welsh cake aroma with spices, whiskey. Just medium bodied. Rich with bitter chocolate, some burnt notes and alcohol. Intense roast. Started at 10C which was definitely too cold. Serious business.

(Tap) Black with small off-white head. Aroma of toffee with notes of port, booze and hints of oak. Full bodied, very sticky, modest fine carbonation. Flavour is exceptional. Maybe it is the (presumably) bourbon barrel aging, but booze and bourbon is what hits you first. There is a lot of oak in this. As this subsides, a nice toffee sweetness develops and a well rounded and complex set of tastes are established and slowly evolve to a gentle oaky bourbon finish. Very unusual and enjoyable.

(Can) Pours very dark brown with small tan head. Lovely complex aroma. Dominantly vinous with oak, chocolate, hints of cherry and vinegar. Kept taking more sniffs to try to understand the complex aroma. Smooth medium body with modest fine carbonation. Taste is unusual and complex. There’s a pleasant tartness and plenty of oak throughout the palate. There are notes of chocolate and cherries. There’s some pepper spice and earthiness. Very enjoyable and intriguing.

(Can) Pours clear amber with a slightly pinkish hue. No head. Interesting aroma. Sour and fruity. My immediate association was with scrumpy cider. But there’s a vinous hint too. Great mouthfeel and very surprising from the very still appearance. Medium body, smooth with very fine carbonation. Good taste and interesting. There’s a pleasant sourness throughout with some nice gentle woody balancing notes. The sourness has both a yoghurt aspect and an underripe grape note to it and maybe hints of green apple. There is a hint of bread dough in the finish. Intersecting and enjoyable.

Can. Very dark brown with a beige head that's a fluffy cm. Aroma of hard caramel, vanilla, pudding spices, glace cherries. Getting towards syrupy. Lowish carbonation. Very sweet indeed with lots of hard - and somewhat singed - caramel before quite strong bitterness. Spices, vanilla and caramel linger. The bitterness rushes in pretty early but I'm not sure it's distracting from much. Sound but not compelling.

Tap. Almost black, no head. Aroma of Bourbon, cocoa, caramel syrup, oak. A fair bit of body and some obvious alcohol but very drinkable - I guess due to the combination of moderate sweetness and a drying but not too oaky finish. Good rather than great flavours but fine balance between Bourbon, chocolate and a peppery oaked and gently bitter finish.

Can. Cloudy orange, no head despite quite a few bubbles. Funky, brusque aroma of under-ripe tropical fruit, Dubbin, unfinished wine, bracken. 7+ Sour with a mineral & lime acidity, floaty stone and tropical fruit notes, an oaky and twiggy finish. There's a depth to the sourness without the balance of the beer going too far in that direction. Another good one.

Can. Deep brown with a brief flash of beige head. Mellow Autumnal funky aroma with the forest floor, strong bread, cherry vinegar, milk chocolate. More funky than sour but there's a tart and twiggy edge lurking underneath the bread, fruit and spices. Like the Wild Dark Ale there's a local rye twist on Flemish Red going on here and it works really well.

Can. Black with a brown head. Roasty aroma with dark chocolate, some coffee, berries, some spices along with/ accompanying whiskey and biscotti. Reminders of Blackheart IS (IMHO the benchmark for Australia). Sweetish with strong bread and good chocolate. Subdued roast with nutty and whiskey flavours maybe sawing off the more rambunctious edge of roast. Spicy finish with moderate bitterness. Good stuff, would like to have a non BA version.
