Description
Set in the scenic Blue Ridge Mountains of Central Virginia, Blue Mountain opened in 2007 as the region’s first rural brewery. Founders Taylor and Mandi Smack and Matt Nucci had a vision to bring the brewery experience out of the normal hustle and bustle of an urban environment. Today, we’re still focused on making an inspired range of the highest-quality beers that can be enjoyed at our two locations in beautiful Nelson County, or in bottles and cans throughout Virginia and beyond.

Orange and lilly nose. Clear amber, medium head, minimal lace. Orange, grain, grass, bread crust. Medium body, easy carbonation. King of misses the mark for the New England substyle, but it's a solid IPA

Tap at South Street. Hazy orange with lots of bubbles. Nose is full-on canned pineapple - there is nothing else here. It's like popping open a can of pineapple. Seriously. Also, flavor is the same. Canned ass pineapple, A hint of green leaf. This is sweetened pineapple juice with a hint of booze in it. Is this beer?

A 750 ml bottle of Isabel sent along by rare beer, I am informed to enjoy by 5/22. With caged and corked beers becoming more scarce, it is nice to have this one to sample. A snifter in hand, the pour is jade black with a credible head of straw colored foam. I have a smell, chocolate, vanilla and alcohol. A drink follows, more of the chocolate, cereal, some orange zest coming through and plenty of malt. Not as hefty a mouth feel as I had hoped but definitely a substantial bitterness at the end. Decent.

Growler from Meridian Pint. Poured a clear dark amber color with a small off-white head. Aroma was Light caramel malts, crisp grassy character. Sweet malts, touch of earthy notes here. Light bitterness. Clean and easy to drink.

Florals and some malt. Not a ton of Belgian vibe here. More of a malt forward beer. Murky amber pour with good head. Tangy end. Bottle.
