Just a beer that's lightly on the sweet vanilla side. Okay if you like this kind of thing. Nothing bad but nothing really good either. Serviceable

Deep dark brown coloured body with an almost black tint and a thin, very fast-dying tan head. Aroma of coffee, tons of roasted malt, coffee, vanilla, earth, caramel and a bunch of sugars near the end, mostly from caster sugar, but some from icing sugar, caramelised sugars and a dash of pitted fruits, but a lot of robust malts here as well. Medium to Full-bodied; Strong robust and very pungent malty flavours dominate with a lot of vanilla, earth, grain, metal and coffee notes here, but the earthiness is strongest, as are some nuts to go with the pungent vanilla notes that end this nicely, as do the sugars which are vibrant here. Aftertaste shows some rich coffee, nutty and earthy, lightly rustic qualities, but the brown sugars, vanilla and especially the coffee are the strongest here, in a good, complex way. Overall, a nice and enjoyable real stout with a lot of lactose, creaminess and vanilla notes, but also a good hit of sweetness, alcohol and earthy flavours finish this off nicely. I sampled this twelve ounce can, purchased from Hy-Vee [grocery] in Madison, Wisconsin on 08-August-2021 for US$$1,99 sampled at my house here in Washington on 13-February-2022 after watching the super bowllvi and Olympics in celebration for Team USA!

12 ounce can from Woodman’s Appleton, 10/15/21. Clear amber, medium tan head, good retention. Looks nice. Aroma of caramel, earthy hops. Taste is butter toffee, earthy hops. Not crisp enough for the style. Overall decent.

Lemon, biscuit malt, cardboard, and hay aroma. Golden yellow with minimal head. Mildly sweet lemon, biscuit malt, and mildly bitter straw flavor. Okay body.

Aromas and flavors are oxidized hops, a little resin, citrus and caramel malt. Decent body with good carbonation and bittersweet finish. Would be nice to try fresh.

Lots going on with the aromas, toffee, caramel, dark malt, roast, cocoa, minerals. Flavors are a lot like nose, mildly sweet but very well balanced smooth and easy drinking Great body and clean finish. Another very well balanced beer from Hillsboro. Somewhat reminiscent of a traditional British Porter.

The aromas are dark malt, toast, and vanilla. Flavors are like nose, on the sweet side up front with good carbonation and just enough bitterness to balance. Fairly smooth and easy drinking. Pretty good milk stout. Nice finish.

Aromas are Coco, roast, dark malt and a little black patent. Flavors are thankfully not overly sweet, and like nose with the black patent coming out a little bit more with licorice. Maybe some molasses. Slightly chalky body but good overall.
