Cask, handpump at The Silkmill, Derby 30-01-10 in company of Loz, Simon (Haddonsman) my dad and Pauline I understand from reading some local CAMRA publications that relatively new beer has already won an award in the strong bitter category at a recent East Midlands Festival so I was keen to try this as the Blue Monkey Beers I’ve tried so far have been lovely. Pours warm gold edging towards a very light amber difficult to be precise in the light of this pub. Some pleasant mineral type flavours on the tongue, with a good smattering of tingly hoppiness, its clean, very, very drinkable and another belter from Blue Monkey. A7 A5 F7 P4 Ov14 3.7

Cask, handpump at The Silkmill, Derby 30-01-10 in company of Loz, Simon (Haddonsman) my dad and Pauline Pours mid gold in colour with a thin white head and good clarity. Some light hops on the nose and a subtle but nonetheless hoppy presence in the mouth, light bitterness, excellent quaffing ale. A7 A4 F7 P4 Ov14 3.6

Cask, handpump at The Old Oak, Horsley Woodhouse, Derbyshire 29-01-10 Pours almost black with an off-white head. There is a little coffee on the nose and its got a nice rosty maltiness. Taste is very good a combination of roastiness and spent coffee grains with measured but lengthy bitterness. The coffee hangs for a while but through it all there is a hoppiness that clings to the roof of the mouth with the coffee. Nice stuff. A6 A4 F8 P4 Ov14 3.6
