Description
Situated in Larbert, Tryst Brewery has been producing quality ales since 2003. John McGarva, owner and head brewer, is always focusing on adding new twists to traditional recipes to create unique takes on classic ales. All of our brews are made with Scottish malt from Mungoswells in East Lothian with additions from Bairds Malt to add depth of colour and flavour. To keep our beers evolving we use hops from all over the globe allowing for a broad range of tastes and aromas.

We are committed to doing our part for the environment at the brewery. Our used malt goes to some local farms for use in agriculture. We also use our spent hops for composting, which helps enrich our small garden, where we attempt to grow some classic British hop varieties such as Fuggle and Target.

Closed because of retirement.

Keg at BrewDog Edinburgh. Very dark brown, a small amount of visible carbonation creating a little beige/tan head. Smell is not so much chocolate as a decadent hot fudge sundae, with some wood chips and freshly milled paper. Rounded sweet taste. Lovely. However the body is weak and the finish is exceptionally short. Diddums. Otherwise would have scored reasonably higher.

Cask at Robbie’s Bar, Edinburgh. Mid to dark gold, a little hazy. Biggish white head with lots of lacing left behind. Citrus with a hint of banana in the aroma. The Mosaic hops do certainly stand out. The same is true of the full bittersweet fruity taste. Long finish, with a noticeable buttery note. Pretty good but not outstanding. I’d have it again but wouldn’t be my first choice.
