Description
Shock Top is a traditional Belgian-Style wheat ale. It was originally created in 2006 as a seasonal brew under the name Spring Heat Spiced Wheat. After collecting gold in ’06 and bronze in ’07 in the Belgian White category at the North American Beer Awards, we decided to brew year-round and switch the name to Shock Top. We couldn’t be happier with our decision. And the best decision you can make is to try some Shock Top for yourself.

12oz bottle. Pours out a straw color topped with a white head. Nose is green apple jolly ranchers and cinnamon. Taste is more of the fake green apple taste along with some sweetness.

Bleh. Well, not quite bleh. This is like a softly carbonated mead and so in that respect its kinda neat, but the mead aspect is all pure honey sweetness without any of the character or depth of the better meads. I have a real hard time finding any bourbon or oak notes in here at all. The bleh part comes from the abrupt switch, mid mouth, from up front honeyed sweetness to a lightly hopped, dry wheat beer type finish, its very shocking and off-putting.

On draft at an Outbacker Steakhouse in Abington, PA. Served with an orange slice. Unclear and pale orange, no head, high carbonated. Fruity orange on the nose. Mid yeasty at the start, light orange fruity, soft caramell. Not really a long aftertaste. It´s okay for an industrial US beer, but seriously not a complex beer and far away of from an origin belgian witbier.

Pour is a cloudy yellow with a large white head. Aroma is all apple. I could small it as I was pouring it from the can. Flavor is again all apple. This is very sweet and way artificial. There is no way AB could get this apple flavor and aroma naturally. A buck for the can b/c I wanted something light.

Can: Poured a light yellow color ale with a light bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of fake raspberry syrup is quite awful with quite a bit of residual sugars. This is closer to a cooler than beer. Taste is a mix between some grainy wheat malt notes with quite a bit of residual sugar and way too much of the awful raspberry syrup. Body is light with good carbonation. I wasn’t expecting some kind of masterpiece but what a bunch of crap this beer was.

Can: Poured a light yellow color ale with a light bubbly head with average retention. Aroma of lemon syrup with quite a bit of residual sugars is closer to juice than beer. Taste is a mix between some wheat malt notes with quite a bit of residual sugar and some lemon syrup notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Easy drinking wheat beer with a tad too much sugar thought.

Bottle. Honey, cardboard, cheap bourbon, and malt aroma. Hazy golden yellow with giant white head. Lightly sweet honey, crappy bourbon and wheat malt flavor. As expected.
