12 oz. bottle. Anyone surprised to find that this is about as authentically belgian as an Eggo waffle? I didn’t think so. Pours the same pale drabness as a Bud, with a slightly saving grace of some haze. Somewhat orangey smell, uh-huh. Taste comes in like an overly fizzy Radler beer, except with Tang in place of lemon. Suggestion of sourness, as it A-B was afraid to damage sales by making anything tart. Over carbonation is what really makes this unpalateable, it gets in the way of any attempt to make the flavors get along. Not even in Blue Moon territory.

A Belgian Wit bier???? Are you kidding me? The day Budweiser brews a true Belgian beer is the day I brew a filtered budweiser clone.
Not to say this was a bad beer, as it was fairly drinkable, if a bit too sweet and punchy on the spicing. Fairly thick body though, with more residual sugar than I’ve seen in any bud product to-date (not counting the Celebration or Brewmasters Reserve) with a much improved mouthfeel. Sweet candy-like sugars, tons of coriander and candied-orange flavors, with vanilla-honey sweetness underlying the spice. Not much, if any complexity, and an odd acidity and slight breadiness on the finish. No alcohol noted and certainly no Belgian witbier esters or phenols. A bit crude for a spiced beer, as the sugars got too sticky by the end of the glass. Amber-orange colored body is topped by an off-white/beige head that shows moderate retention and little/no lacing. Tastes like a spiced amber ale to me, with way too much caramel-vanilla for what you would expect in a lighter wheat beer.
Rating is to-style, since budweiser claims this is a belgian wheat. Would be significantly higher if it was not to-style.
